Entry 1.Dear Diary,Mother insists I attend another ball tonight.I have tried everything to convince her otherwise.I told her I was tired.She said I could rest after the ball.I told her I had nothing suitable to wear.She reminded me that my wardrobe is already overflowing with dresses I have barely touched.I even told her I had a headache.She simply looked at me and said headaches do not prevent a young lady from attending a social gathering.I have finally surrendered.I suppose I cannot afford to disrespect Mother or Father, no matter how desperately I want to.Besides, what could possibly be so interesting about another evening filled with people I barely know?The same conversations.The same fake smiles.The same ridiculous dresses.And the same men who seem to believe that being born into a wealthy family makes them interesting.Everyone is so obnoxious and arrogant.I would much rather remain at home and read.At least books do not pretend to be something they are not.
