RILEYI waited patiently for Domi to fall asleep again, and when his breath finally evened out, I turned to Hannah and motioned to the door. She nodded in acknowledgement.Once we were back in the main room of the suite, Hannah spoke to me in a low voice.“‘Daddy’?” she quoted Domi in surprise. “Did you already tell him about Killian?”I shook my head. “I didn’t really have to tell him. He told me he started piecing it together on his own a while ago, and some of the other children confirmed it. Which works, I suppose. There’s no point in hiding it anymore anyway.”“Wow,” she sighed. “He’s always been a clever one, hasn’t he?”Then, the rest of my statement seemed finally to register, and she frowned. “Wait, Riley… have you decided to stay here?”“I don’t really have a choice,” I said. “Dominic’s a werewolf, and leaving the Pack is obviously too dangerous for him. It’s in his best interest to stay.”She nodded in agreement. “ I suppose so. Even though I don’t like these arrogant, sham

RILEYMy eyes widened in shock, and the crowd erupted in murmurs, the room buzzing with activity.I spotted Catherine standing not too far from us, alongside Sean. She seemed just as surprised by the accusation as everyone else.Bram’s features darkened further, his hand clenching so tightly around the handle of his cane that his knuckles turned white. Before he could say anything else, Bradley scoffed.“What do you suspect my daughter has done?” he asked, his eyes narrowing to slits. “Enlighten us, Sophia. Just what is Catherine hiding, hmm?”Sophia’s throat bobbed, but she met the Moon Ridge Alpha’s gaze without flinching.“I suspect that Catherine was responsible for the attack on the guard that’s still in the medical center.”Silence followed, and the air suddenly felt too thin.Bradley leaned forward. “Do you have any evidence of this? Other than speculation?”“I was training alone in the forest that night,” Sophia replied. “And I saw Catherine out there with someone, but I could

RILEYAnnoyance shot through me at his sour tone, and I couldn’t help but blurt out what was really on my mind, my voice sharp.“Why have you been avoiding me?”I felt a minor twitch in my eyebrow and wanted to cringe at how worked up I was getting already, but it suddenly felt justified when Killian remained indifferent.“I’m not avoiding you,” he said evenly, his expression unreadable. “I’ve just been busy. The rogue situation needed to be dealt with, and there were Pack matters I needed to handle. On top of this trial. I’m stretched thin these days.”I knew he was lying, but I couldn’t find anything to refute him with since the business with the rogues was primarily my fault. I’d contributed to the mess in my escape, and I couldn’t blame him for his reaction. And then this business with Sophia…Still, he was being an emotionless wall, and that was worse than the scorn I almost wanted him to throw my way. When I didn’t respond, he tapped his fingers against the table once, and then

RILEYDespite my confusion about the secrecy, I followed Dale toward a cluster of flowering trees a short distance away, keeping Domi within our sights.Once we were alone, Dale’s usual easygoing smile faded, his expression serious and contemplative.“What is it?” I prompted him worriedly. “Is everything alright?”He hesitated and then surveyed the garden. It was only after he was certain no one else was there that he met my gaze head-on, his warm brown eyes inescapable.“Was it Sean who helped you escape, Riley?”I was immediately taken aback, not expecting the question.“N-no, absolutely not!” I denied it, but my face must have given away my inner turmoil because Dale didn’t seem convinced. “Why do you a-ask?”“Hey, don’t panic on me, alright?” he insisted, his hands lifting a bit. “I just want to talk.”A breeze traveled through the air, ruffling my hair and bringing with it the pleasant scent of flowers. I inhaled deeply, forcing myself to remain calm as he instructed. If Domi cou

RILEYGiven the need for secrecy, I had to wait to carry out the mission until Jason was otherwise occupied. The last thing we needed was for the imposing werewolf to reveal our plan to Killian prematurely, so I strategized with Dale and waited until Domi’s usual playtime with the other pups to accompany him to the cells.Lisa was more than happy to keep an eye on Domi in my absence, which made me feel a bit guilty for lying to her about needing to send off an assignment for class. But this conversation with Sophia was too important to put off any longer. The cells were located just beneath the Pack House and were manned by two muscular guards. Dale used his pull as Gamma of the Pack to get us through without questioning, informing the guards that he was conducting business as usual on “Alpha’s behalf”.In all honesty, the facility wasn’t too bad. The temperature was on the colder side, and it was dimly lit, but it was still much better than the orphanage I’d grown up in. It wasn’t an
