All Chapters of Greyfen Love Chronicles : Chapter 21 - Chapter 30

Six weeks later, Mara stood in the bathroom of her house, the plastic stick trembling in her fingers. The second line was already darkening, a clear, undeniable pink that seemed to deepen the longer she stared. She’d known the moment she missed a period, but she had decided to wait it out anyway, hoping it would come. She had never missed a period in her life. Not once. Not even during the first years of stress and late nights and Ben’s revolving door of other women. Her body had always been reliable, almost cruelly so.She had been careful. Or she thought she had.Julian never used a condom. He had tried once, early on, fumbling with the wrapper in the dim light of the cabin while she was still flushed and open beneath him.She had ripped it off him herself, tossed it aside, and pulled him back into her with a breathless, “I want to feel you.” He had groaned and given in without argument. After that, neither of them bo

Ever since Corinne moved to Greyfen she was always the talk of the town. She was so different from most of the women who lived there.First, she was the fourth wife of the town mayor. She was twenty six years old to his fifty six, almost thirty years younger, and the evidence of their age difference was overwhelming. Some people, on meeting them for the first time, thought she was either his daughter or his niece. She had this gorgeous float of long blonde hair that everyone stopped her to compliment her about. Sometimes they’d also ask what products she used to maintain it and keep it lush. Some skeptics always wondered if it was even real. It was.Dominic had imagined what it would feel like sliding his fingers through it on more than one occasion. The thought always annoyed him.She was so pretty that Harlan liked to walk her through town like a new car, making sure every eye lingered on his latest possession. He spent money on her in obnoxious amounts, buying her anything she want

“Just make anything. I’m not a picky eater.” She’d responded with a chuckle. He wiped the counter next to her twice that was already spotless, then, when she caught him staring, asked her if she wanted more water. Each time she answered politely, sometimes with that same small smile, and returned to the page. She never asked him to stay and talk. She never asked him to leave either. A little while later she closed the book and disappeared out the back of the house without a word. Dominic waited ten minutes. Then thirty. The house felt empty without her presence. He poured a glass of the cold pressed juice he’d found in the refrigerator. He told himself it was just polite to take it to her. He followed the direction she’d gone. The small workshop sat behind the main house, half hidden by a stand of trees. The door was open. He stepped inside and stopped. Corinne stood at a long woode

Corinne had always thought Dominic was handsome. She had been drawn to him the first time she saw him. It was the day before he and Sadie showed up at the gate with the eggs. She had been sitting in the back of the mayor’s blank car, the tinted windows keeping the afternoon heat at bay while Harlan went into the post office for some package or another. She had been half watching the street, her mind already drifting away from the withdrawals she had been making from the household accounts, when a tall figure stepped up to the counter inside. She figured he was six-five at least. He had broad shoulders under a plain work shirt. He was lean with athletic build that came from actual labor rather than a gym. He had dark hair cut short. A face that looked carved straight from stone. He had a strong jaw with high cheekbones, and a permanent faint frown between his brows, as if the world had already disappointed him once and he was prepared f

Corinne reached the house a small smile still lingering on her mouth from the way Dominic had fucked her so thoroughly, she had cried out. The sticky evidence of him was still warm between her legs, slick against her inner thighs with every step. She could feel the faint ache where he had stretched her open, the throb of it a secret pulse under the fabric of her dress. The house was dark. There were no lights in the windows. That meant Harlan was already upstairs, asleep. Relief loosened in her chest. She closed the heavy front door behind her and leaned back against it for a moment, eyes shut, listening to the distant growl of Dominic’s motorcycle fading down the hill. A small laugh escaped her. She pressed her thighs together and felt the slippery wetness. She did not see Harlan at the top of the stairway. He stood in the shadows in his dressing gown, a cut crystal glass of whiskey held loosely in one han
