All Chapters of The Pregnancy Test Mix-Up: Chapter 1 - Chapter 10

Professor Adrian Sinclair sat behind a wide desk, every inch composed.I stared at the paper, mouth opening and closing, too stunned to get a single word out.It was the lab report my best friend Chloe had shoved into my bag last night. She thought she might be pregnant, but she'd been too scared to read the result, so she'd shoved the printout into my bag and asked me to check it. In my rush to turn in my paper, I'd somehow bound it in with the assignment."P-Professor Sinclair." I swallowed hard, fighting for my voice. "This is all a misunderstanding.""A misunderstanding?" Adrian let out a low laugh, though his tone betrayed nothing. "Vivian Harper, you didn't seem to think it was a misunderstanding when you left two hundred dollars on my nightstand."My knees buckled, and I nearly collapsed right there. So he really was here for payback."That night was an accident," I forced myself to say. "I was blackout drunk. I thought you were, you know... that kind of guy. That's why I left t

Over the next few days, I lived in constant terror.Adrian's version of "taking care of me" bordered on absurd. In class, the moment I so much as yawned, he would pause. "This section is dense. Take ten minutes and let it sink in."Then, without a word, he'd turn up the thermostat in the lecture hall, which the university kept at arctic levels. In his office, even my beloved iced Americano was forcibly replaced with warm water."What kind of dirty tricks did Vivian Harper pull to get into Professor Sinclair's private office?"In the restroom, I'd barely pushed open the stall door when I heard voices outside. It was Anna Whitmore. She'd been nursing a crush on Adrian for ages, and her father sat on the university's board of trustees."Who knows? Maybe she used that pretty face to keep him happy in bed," another girl said.Anna scoffed. "A moron who can't even pass his class has no business being near Professor Sinclair. Just wait. I'll make sure everyone sees exactly what she is."I sto

I waited for his anger. I waited for him to punish me the way he punished everyone who lied to him.But it never came.Adrian closed his eyes and drew in a long, slow breath.I barely breathed, afraid the slightest sound would break the calm before the storm.Adrian stayed on one knee, staring at me for a full thirty seconds.Just when I thought he was going to strangle me, he moved. He stood, took off his tailored suit jacket, and wrapped it around me without a word.He didn't explode. He didn't throw me out. Instead, he bent down and scooped me up in his arms, jacket and all."P-Professor." I was so startled that I stuttered."Quiet." His voice was hoarse. He carried me to the bedroom, laid me on the soft bed, pulled the covers up tightly around me, and walked out.I heard the front door open and close. He left?I burrowed under the covers, emotions churning. He had to be furious. He probably couldn't stand the sight of me and my lies.Less than twenty minutes later, the front door o

Campus IT eventually traced the anonymous post to Anna. After the university concluded that she'd deliberately spread false accusations, her scholarship application was denied, and she withdrew before transferring elsewhere. As for Adrian and me, our relationship was no longer a secret. The entire department knew that the untouchable Professor Sinclair was hopelessly, incurably protective of his girlfriend. That weekend, I went shopping with Chloe.Chloe had been miserable lately. A follow-up test had shown the original result was a false positive, but somehow her ex had heard about it.He was a spoiled trust-fund kid who coasted through life on family money and bullied everyone around him."He's blackmailing me," Chloe said, eyes red, voice shaking. "He says if I don't pay, he'll tell everyone I sleep around and practically live at the OB-GYN. He'll claim I faked the pregnancy to scam him and pin everything on me.""Let him try!" I was shaking with rage. "We're going to the police rig

After the gala, we returned to the apartment.Adrian had drunk quite a bit tonight. The faint scent of whiskey mingled with his usual cedarwood cologne. He loosened his tie, tossed his jacket onto the sofa, and leaned back, rumpled and devastatingly attractive.I poured him a glass of warm water and held it out. "Drink some water. You'll feel better."He didn't take the glass. Instead, he seized my wrist and pulled.I let out a gasp as I tumbled into his arms.He buried his face in the curve of my neck, his warm breath ghosting across my skin and sending shivers down my spine."Vivian," he murmured, his voice low and rough."Hmm?" I ran my fingers through his tousled hair."Do you think that night at the bar was an accident?" He lifted his head and held my gaze.I blinked. "Wasn't it?"I'd been blackout drunk. I had no idea how I'd even ended up talking to him.Adrian laughed softly, trailing his fingers over my cheek. "It wasn't an accident."His expression turned serious, almost stub
