CHAPTER 51

Kael stood in the empty corridor, his hand still pressed against his bleeding lip. He didn't even feel the sting. All he could feel was the ghost of Rhys's mouth, the bruising pressure, the shocking, violent intimacy of it. He had asked to be hurt, a stupid, defiant gesture, and Rhys had delivered. But it wasn't a punishment. It was a claim. You're right. Rhys's voice echoed in his mind, low and dangerous. He had wanted to hurt Kael, not as a superior, but as a man. And in that kiss, in that raw, brutal moment, he had revealed a vulnerability that Kael had never imagined. A vulnerability he was terrified to see, because it meant everything was a thousand times more complicated than he had ever thought. Kael's trembling hand dropped from his face. He looked at the elevator doors, frustration and confusion wrapping their arms around him. 'What have I done?' He had wanted to provoke Rhys as usual, get a reaction, and prove that his lieutena

CHAPTER 52

Axton's control shattered. His hands fisted in Ren's hair, not to hurt, but to hold him in place as he groaned, a sound torn from deep in his chest. The touch of Ren's tongue was a shock to his system, a jolt that went straight to his core. He had spent so long denying this, denying him, but in that moment, all his defences were useless. This wasn't a symptom of his Beast-bound soul; it was an ache, a burning hunger for Ren that had nothing to do with duty and everything to do with a horrifying, addictive desire."Don't," Axton rasped, his voice thick with a want so raw it terrified him. He was a man of logic, a man who built walls, but Ren was a wrecking ball, and with a simple touch of his tongue, he had brought the whole thing down.Ren's eyes, wide and knowing, met his. "You want this," he whispered, the words both a question and a statement of fact. His hands moved, trailing his fingers along Axton's length,

CHAPTER 53

Ren's mood had been down the whole night, and as he walked into the cafeteria the next morning, he wished for Stanley or anyone to provoke him.He needed to transfer some aggression and also get the captain's attention. He hadn't seen Axton for over an hour and knew he was being avoided. He liked it in some way. At least he didn't get to see the face of the man who sees him as nothing but a duty.On the other hand, he wanted to see Axton's face, to hear his voice, maybe... even feel his touch. He knew he was so stupid to want all those things, but he couldn't help himself. He was a captive of his own heart, helpless against the emotions that enslaved him.He was the most foolish person on Earth, the only fook who would see and recognise and still go ahead and fall for him.He got to the table, and everyone was already seated, eating their food.He made his way to Kael's side and lowered himself by his side.

CHAPTER 54

Ren carefully dismounted the bike, his legs still shaky from the exhilarating, terrifying ride. He pulled off the helmet, shaking his head to clear the ringing in his ears. The air here was different, less sterile than the Faction compound, filled with the smells of cooking food, dust, and a faint, sweet scent he couldn't quite place. He heard the hum of conversation in the distance – it was a symphony of normal life, a stark contrast to the rigid order he had grown accustomed to."The residents?" Ren repeated, looking around with wide-eyed wonder. The buildings, though smaller and less imposing, had a lived-in feel, painted in various shades of white and earth tonesHe looked around and saw how people were bustling about, engaged in various activities – an old woman in a nurse's uniform emerged from the building beside them tending a young man's broken, wrapped wrist. In a long path that ran toward the left,

CHAPTER 55

Ren quickly recoiled, stepping back from the bald man's outstretched hand. The man's sudden offer and the unsettling look in his eyes, now seeming distant and unfocused, sent a shiver of genuine unease down Ren's spine. His earlier amusement at the "crazy" residents vanished, replaced by a prickling sense of danger."No, thank you, sir," Ren said, his voice a little too sharp, a little too quick. He forced a polite smile, trying to mask his rising panic. "I appreciate the offer, but I... I have to get back. My friends are waiting."The bald man paused, his head tilting slightly as if trying to process Ren's words. A slow, vacant smile spread across his face, revealing more of his poorly maintained teeth. "Friends? Here? No, no. Everyone is family here. We take care of our own." He took another step forward, his hand still extended.Ren's heart hammered against his ribs. This was not the playful mischief he was used to from Kael, nor the unsettling co

CHAPTER 56

Rhys's back stiffened. The question hung in the air, a venomous dart aimed directly at his greatest fear. Ren. Dead. The thought sent a jolt of ice through him, momentarily eclipsing the confusion and self-loathing about Kael."He won't die," Rhys said, his voice flat, devoid of emotion, a desperate attempt to convince himself as much as Corvin. He spun around, his eyes, though outwardly calm, held a dangerous spark. "He's not dead. And he won't be."Corvin smirked, stepping closer. "And how do you know that, Lieutenant? You know what happens when the residents get like that." He said. Watching Rhys's composure crumble slightly. Rhys turned toward Corvin, "You don't shut up, do you?" He asked and started walking toward the door. "Hey, hold on," Corvin grabbed Rhys's hand, stopping him from leaving."What do you think you're doing?" Rhys questioned."Where do you think you're going?" Corvin answered with a question.

CHAPTER 57

Corvin's panic was palpable, a stark contrast to his usual smug demeanour. He fumbled through drawers, his movements jerky and uncoordinated. "No, no, this shouldn't be happening so fast! An hour, he said an hour! What did they give him?"Ren's body continued to spasm, the coughs racking his frame. A low, guttural sound, not entirely human, emanated from his throat, followed by another gush of blood, darker this time, from his nose. His hands clenched into fists, his fingernails digging into his palms."Kael! Rhys! Get out! Now! I need to concentrate!" Corvin shrieked, finally finding a vial of clear liquid and a larger syringe.Kael and Rhys, frozen in horror by Ren's rapid deterioration, snapped out of their stupor. They instinctively moved, but not towards the door. Kael grabbed a nearby oxygen mask, while Rhys, his face grim, started to clear the other side of the bed, preparing to assist."No, you fools! He's not just sick! This is a

CHAPTER 58

Axton's knuckles, still white from gripping the Neural Resonance Inducer, gently grazed Ren's cheek. The chill of Ren's skin, though lessening, still sent a jolt of fear through him.He leaned closer, his forehead almost touching Ren's—his mind desperately praying for his most precious possession."Captain?" Kael's voice was barely a whisper, a stark contrast to the earlier chaos. He and Corvin exchanged a worried glance, noting the raw, uncharacteristic vulnerability etched on their Captain's face. The usually impenetrable Axton was showing cracks, and it was a terrifying sight.Axton finally moved slowly, reluctantly, pulling his hands away from Ren's face. He rose to his feet, his movements stiff, almost mechanical. The Neural Resonance Inducer, now dark and inert, was clipped back to his belt with a sharp click that echoed in the silent room.He turned to Kael and Corvin, his eyes still holding a reflection of the barely containe

CHAPTER 59

The cool liquid touched Ren's lips and he had no choice but to drink because he felt so dehydrated. He drank from Axton's hand, gulping loudly until he finished the last drop of water.Axton watched Ren quietly, his mind struggling to accept that this same beautiful man had been so rapid a few minutes ago. He almost lost him and he wasn't letting anything happen to Ren again. His Ren.Ren leaned away as he finished the water, facing the wall, away from Axton and all the watchful eyes of the men in the room.Axton was tempted to turn Ren's face back and kiss him, he craved a kiss that would be so deep and reassuring. A kiss that would console his troubled soul that Ren was still alive and his. But he could sense that Ren was avoiding him, and he knew why.Ren's attitude was a result of his harsh words and the way he had treated him last night.Should he apologise?"Renault?" Corvin called quietly

CHAPTER 60

Axton carried Ren into his room, gently placing him on the sofa beside his bed.Ren immediately shifted away from Axton, leaning on the armrest of the sofa and facing away from Axton. He's been feeling quite uncomfortable as Axton carried him in the elevator and toward the room. These silver eyes wouldn't just stop staring at him like they could see his soul.'Why had he brought me to his room?' Ren pondered angrily.Axton lowered himself beside Ren, looking at his lowered face. He raised his hand and touched Ren but slowly lowered it back to his side. Rather, he stood and went to stand in front of Ren, his figure towering over Ren.Ren shrank into the sofa as he saw Axton lowering himself in front of him.'What is he doing?' He chewed the inside of his cheek, looking away from Axton in front of him."Ren," Axton called quietly, looking up at Ren's face.Ren nibbled on his lower lip, still not l
