The training yard was empty except for the two of them. Lucian and Rowan circled each other as morning light cut through the mist. Their breaths hung in the cold air, and the pack was still waking up, leaving the yard to them. This was the kind of ritual that didn't need words and hadn't for years. Rowan feinted left. Lucian anticipated it, blocked the strike and pivoted, driving his shoulder into Rowan's chest. Rowan grunted but stayed upright, turning the momentum into a counter that swept his leg toward Lucian's knees. Lucian jumped. He came down hard, his fist connecting with Rowan's ribs.
