The Sundered Empire

Elara's second birthday arrived amid a season of genuine, settled peace, and Wren found herself, watching her daughter toddle determinedly across the palace gardens with Alaric close behind, appreciating the particular satisfaction of ordinary family life continuing steadily alongside the coalition's still-ongoing, patient work of historical correction. It was during this same peaceful period that Seraphine brought forward news of a development that would ultimately transform the shape of everything their extraordinary journey had built toward, an unexpected diplomatic contact from territory considerably beyond anything their coalition's previous work had required them to consider."An envoy has arrived," she reported, during a formal council session convened specifically to address this unprecedented development, "representing what she describes as the Sundered Empire, a considerable vampire territory extending across the mountains and seas well beyond even Aldenmark's own eastern bo
