Semua Bab After I Became a Zombie, My Fiancé Drove His Sword Through My Heart: Bab 1 - Bab 10

Adrian's lightning struck without mercy.I dodged on instinct. Even as a high-tier zombie, I couldn't withstand the full force of his lightning. A bolt grazed my left shoulder, tearing open the rotting flesh and filling the air with the stench of burning flesh.I curled up in the rubble and screamed like an animal. Still, I used my intact right hand to protect the ring finger on my left hand.My silver-white engagement ring was still there. Even as my body rotted, I cleaned the dust and dried blood from it every morning.Erin clung to Adrian's jacket and hid behind him. "It actually dodged. This zombie is smarter than the others. Its energy core must be really powerful. Don't let it get away."Adrian's dark eyes reflected my wretched form.Just two weeks ago, those eyes had looked at me with love. That day, White Pine Training Camp was evacuating the last civilians. Adrian had pulled me behind the helipad and knelt in the dust. Then he slipped the ring onto my finger."Layla, once this

Adrian ignored the others' praise. He walked toward me with his sword, his face grim. The soldiers spread out around us, leaving Adrian to finish me off.Erin followed right behind him.Adrian turned to check the zombies I had summoned. As soon as his back was turned, Erin stopped beside me and looked down. Her sweet expression disappeared. Her eyes filled with triumph and cruelty. She bent down and whispered so only I could hear, "I know it's you, Layla."My head snapped up.She knew.Erin looked at the way I protected my left hand and smiled. "I knew you didn't die in the Surge. You kept protecting that ring even after becoming a zombie. You looked like an abandoned dog that still couldn't let go of its owner."A low growl escaped my throat. My black claws dug into the ground. She kept smiling. "Too bad Adrian only trusts me now. I helped him look for you after you disappeared. I healed his wounds and stayed with him every night he couldn't sleep. Everyone says I'm a better match for

Adrian stumbled backward, all the strength leaving his body. His lips shook. He reached for me but stopped halfway. The hands that had just driven a sword through my heart now didn't even dare touch me.Erin still didn't understand what was happening. She came out from behind Daniel and grabbed Adrian's arm. "Quick, pull out the sword. It's still alive. We need to take out its energy core now."Adrian spun toward her.All the gentleness in his eyes disappeared. He looked at her with pure rage.He grabbed Erin by the throat, lifted her off the ground, and slammed her into a stone pillar.Erin coughed up blood, kicking helplessly in the air. "Adrian... what are you doing..."Adrian's voice came through clenched teeth. "I put that ring on her finger myself. It has a Defense Force biometric lock. Only Layla can wear it."His fingers tightened around Erin's throat. "You just told me you found Layla's clothes in the rubble and that this zombie ate her. Erin, did you lie to me?"Everyone froz

"Mark, stay here. If she dies, I'll never forgive any of you—or myself."Adrian left without waiting for supplies or backup. He took only his sword and a half-used energy vial before heading alone into the Red Zone. The next twenty-four hours felt endless. The zombies stayed packed around me, refusing to let anyone close. Mark and the others didn't dare break through. They stayed outside the wall, watching for other Mutants and checking my vital signs through the gaps. The wound in my chest had stopped bleeding, but that didn't mean I was healing. I simply had almost no blood left. My chest barely moved as I breathed.Erin was handcuffed to the bumper of one of the SUVs.A suppressor had blocked her healing ability. Her face was covered in dust and blood. She no longer looked like the innocent, fragile woman from before."Mark, let me go." She tried to win him over with tears. "Adrian will never come back alive. The Red Zone is crawling with high-tier Mutants. That serum was only menti

The rotten flesh fell away from my face and body. The gray-blue marks slowly disappeared, and my black claws returned to normal. I took a deep breath of cold, fresh air.I looked down at my human hands and slowly breathed in.I was alive.I was stronger than before. The psychic power I'd gained as a zombie had mixed with the serum. The power that had been stuck for years suddenly broke through its limit. A powerful force burst from my body, almost knocking everyone down.Adrian let go of me and stared in shock. Tears ran down his injured face, leaving clean lines through the dried blood."Layla, you came back."He reached out to hold me.I turned slightly aside, avoiding his hand.Adrian's hand stopped in midair. The joy on his face disappeared, replaced by pain. He understood why I rejected him and didn't try to defend himself.I didn't look at him again. I stared at Erin. She was still holding the dagger, her whole body shaking."The day Old Saint Clair fell, I pushed you onto the ar
