The office was located on the first floor of the academic building. It wasn't large, but six people—Donna, Henry, Ms. Gellar, a note-taker, Timothy Kane, and me—were packed inside. Mr. Kane, the deputy head of security, had been called in to observe.Donna sat in a chair, her shoulders still shaking and her eyes red. Yet her makeup was barely smudged. It would be impossible for mascara to remain intact on someone who had truly cried for 20 minutes.Henry stood beside her, one hand resting on her shoulder. His expression was as somber as if he were attending a memorial service.Ms. Gellar massaged her temples and started the conversation. "Who's going first?"Henry spoke immediately. "Ms. Gellar, Donna accused Drew of being pregnant at the recruitment fair. She has both eyewitnesses and evidence. The truth is clear."Ms. Gellar looked at Donna. "What evidence do you have?"Donna lowered her head, her voice trembling. "I-I saw her vomiting in the women's restroom… I even took

Ms. Gellar said, "Voiceprint analysis? The school has to report the disciplinary cases next week. I can't wait that long.""Ms. Gellar—"She cut me off. "Enough. We have the recording, the photo, and the witnesses. What are you still arguing about?"Henry added, "Ms. Gellar, she called Donna a bitch at the recruitment fair. She even accused me of abusing my position. Tons of people heard her."I had never said any of that, but I knew it wouldn't matter now.Ms. Gellar looked at me with pure contempt. "Drew, I thought you were quiet and well-behaved. I never expected you to be this kind of person. "You got pregnant and refused to admit it, and now you're trying to shift the blame onto someone else. Is this how your parents raised you?"Every word felt like a slap.Ms. Gellar opened a drawer and pulled out a wooden ruler. It had brass edges and looked pretty heavy."Drew, hold out your hand."I stared at the ruler. I couldn’t believe a formal school would allow such arbitrary,

The hallway was completely silent.Ms. Green's words still hung in the air.Donna was the first to snap out of it. Her voice turned shrill. "Impossible! How could she possibly be a guy?"She rushed over and grabbed me by the hair, yanking my head back. "If you're not a girl, then why the hell do you have long hair?"She grabbed my collar next. "If you're not a girl, then why the hell do you dye your hair?"Then she jabbed me in the chest. "If you're not a girl, then why is your voice so soft? Why do you dress in such bright colors?"Donna jabbed me after every sentence, her nails digging into my skin. What the hell? Was this woman crazy? From the moment Donna accused me of being pregnant, I'd felt like the whole world had gone insane.I was just a guy who liked keeping up with trends. So what if my outfit was bold and stylish? Since when did outfits like mine belong exclusively to girls?Henry chimed in, "Yeah, why would a guy have long, purple-dyed hair and wear flashy cloth

Donna remained silent. The crowd grew impatient."Donna, say something.""You've put him through hell. Surely there's got to be a reason for it, right?"Donna bit her lip, and the tears started falling again. But this time, no one handed her a tissue. A few of the girls nearby even backed away, as if they didn't want to be associated with her. Henry stood beside her, his face as white as a sheet. He didn't dare say a word, picking nervously at the seam of his pants.Ms. Gellar finally spoke. "Donna, even if you don't tell us, the school will investigate and find out the truth eventually."I chimed in. "You criticized my parents 17 times. "My parents don't really care what I do, but I know the truth is on my side. I also have a lot of money, and trust me, I can afford a damn good legal team. If I wanted to sue you, I could have you behind bars for decades."Donna's body started shaking harder. Then she suddenly looked up, tears pouring down her face. But this wasn't her u

A week later, Donna and Henry officially withdrew from school. The two of them had one final, messy argument outside the academic affairs office before security escorted them off the grounds. Ms. Gellar was suspended for a month and required to submit a written apology at the department-wide faculty meeting. Meanwhile, the academic affairs office officially confiscated her wooden ruler.Life on campus gradually returned to normal. The clubs were back out recruiting, students were lining up at their respective booths, and fresh promotional banners stretched all along the quad. I stood in the third-floor corridor of the academic building, leaning against the railing and looking down at the lively scene below. My phone buzzed in my pocket with a new message from the class group chat."Drew, I'm sorry for yelling at you on the field that day."More apologetic messages quickly followed.I stared at them for a few seconds, then silenced my phone and put it away. I left them all un
