The next morning, dark circles under my eyes, I brought Mira Bennett, the local medical liaison, back to the clinic.Seeing me at the door, Ava's lip curled in displeasure. "Why are you here again?"I didn't bother with her and walked straight inside. My patients were what mattered right now.To my shock, there wasn't a single patient left in my clinic. The smell of disinfectant had all but vanished, replaced by something richer and more complex.Scented candles, warm milk, some kind of expensive wood furniture polish. It all hung thick in the air.Four strangers occupied the emergency ward. A middle-aged couple didn't even look up when I walked in.Judging by their features, they had to be Ava's parents. The other two wore white coats and bustled around organizing luggage. They were clearly guards hired by Ava's family. It wasn't just the emergency ward. The observation rooms and the on-call suite had all been converted into a private maternity wing.Ava's still-dripping laundry was d

Ava pursed her lips. "Yesterday you said you'd have proof today. Now you're saying two more hours. Sounds like you're just stalling."Officer, please get this woman out of here. She's seriously disrupting my rest."If a pregnant woman doesn't get proper rest and something happens, who's responsible for that?"She motioned for her two guards to throw me out.My mind raced. "The clinic's original charter, the Council medical seal, physician authorization records, and patient intake logs. They're all in the records room. That can prove my identity too."I started toward the records room, but the moment I took a step, Ronan had the guards block the door."There... there are private patient records in there now. You're not authorized. Going in there would be... illegal access to medical records."Carmen followed right behind. "My daughter is having her baby here. We need to ensure proper medical conditions. And security."You're an outsider. You think you can just walk in wherever you pleas

The first clip was from the day Ronan and Ava moved in.On screen, Ronan was entering the passcode. Ava poked her head into the hallway and spotted the plaque on the wall. "Werewolf Council Neutral Clinic.""This is a Council facility?""Yeah, part of the neutral network. Evelyn gave us five days of access. We'll stay for now and figure things out later."Ava nodded. The second clip cut to the on-call room. Ronan picked up the work tablet Evelyn had left on the desk, swiped through a few screens, and changed a series of settings."Don't worry. Evelyn's a hypocrite. She cares more about her reputation than anything else and would never risk it."Ronan pointed at Ava's belly. "You're pregnant. She won't dare go head-to-head with you. When the time comes, we just say she's harassing her ex-mate, bothering a woman who's about to give birth. A rejected wolf who can't let go."Ava asked something else. Ronan laughed and shook his head, then answered after a few seconds."That's her only weak

Nora surveyed the hall and raised her voice."The following violations have been confirmed at this scene. First, illegal entry and occupation of a Council neutral medical facility. Second, impersonation of the authorized physician and misuse of a Council-issued badge to conduct commercial negotiations with a third party under false credentials. Third, assault on the authorized holder, including physical shoving resulting in injury and forced contact with the wound site. Fourth, defrauding a marriage alliance partner of prenuptial funds, inflating medical equipment purchase prices, and misappropriating the difference. Fifth, unauthorized use of the Council's neutral medical credentials as a commercial bargaining chip in external negotiations. Sixth, damage to the authorized holder's personal field equipment and on-site medical property."Have I missed anything?"No one spoke."Then I am officially accepting Dr. Evelyn Grey's complaint against Ronan Cortez. We'll see you before the Counc

Three days later, Ronan, Ava, and her family were back at my clinic.Under the watch of Council inspectors and Officer Marsh, they packed up and moved out.The inspector checked off every item on the inventory.Ronan pulled two keycards from his pocket and placed them on the desk. The Castillo family's temporary access was simultaneously revoked in the system.Ronan had lost the VP promotion, his position at the company, and his identity sponsorship. The charges for occupation, identity fraud, and damages still hung over him. He'd gone gaunt, shuffling around like a walking corpse.Ava and Ronan had ended things between them. From the moment they walked in to the moment they left, neither said a single word to the other. By the looks of it, Ronan had no intention of acknowledging the child as his.A few days later, I got a message from an unfamiliar number. It was Ava.She wrote that she'd only done what she did because Ronan had deceived her. The last few lines said the baby was almos
