Agatha remained still beneath the canopy, her eyes moving cautiously around her surroundings. There were no stone walls, no iron bars, no guards.Only towering trees whose branches intertwined, underneath it where it formed a thick roof against the night sky.A small fire burned nearby, casting a warm glow over the rough bed of leaves where she laid.Covered in an animal skin cloak, she fuzzled into it, as it smelled just like the forest. She winced, from a certain pain that shot through her legs as they ached from the turmoil."You're awake," he said.Agatha immediately turned toward the voice, as her body stiffened from the sight of Welsfar sharpening a short blade. He noticed."You don't have to be afraid of me," he said, still focussed on his small blade."If I wanted to hurt you, I would have left you at the river."Agatha looked away. "You could still take me back.""I could," he said, while her eyes returned to him."But I won't.""Why?"Welsfar stared into the fire for a momen

Today was the day Vagos gave Mondeigo a gift for his third year birthday.Seeing Vagos wrap his little arms around Mondeigo reminded Agatha of the night Welsfar had first held Vagos in his arms.Agatha watched the boys play beneath the trees, but a quiet fear remained in her heart.Welsfar was no longer simply the man who had rescued them from the forest. Over the years, he had become the father of her two sons and the man who had given them a home when they had nowhere else to go.There were things about Vagos neither she nor Welsfar could explain. His senses were sharper than those of any ordinary child, and sometimes, whenever the moonlight touched his skin, the strange mark hidden beneath his clothes would faintly glow. The little boy who had once run barefoot beneath the trees was now fifteen years old.Vagos stood tall, brave and fearless, his body hardened by years of training beneath Welsfar's watchful eye.Tree branches smack against each other as they dug their feet into the

The enormous silver gates flashed across Tagin's eyes, sending pain through them, causing his brows to furrow as he winced in pain.“Mmmm…” The blurry figures before him stared at him with so much confusion."Please…please… Get it out of me," Tagin said before finally blacking out."No way we're letting him inside the gates," one soldier said, slowly backing away."We can't leave him here, he needs our help."His stomach suddenly lurched inward, then bulged outward as though something beneath it had slammed against the skin, making the soldiers freeze mid-way between their conversations. For more than two minutes they remained speechless as they exchanged glances. One of them finally spoke up, breaking the silence."What the fuck, man. There's no way we're letting him through these gates.""He needs help, it's probably just a strange sickness.""He's a vampire, man! King Snow would have our heads.""Have you forgotten the law that says anyone who comes needy at the gates: our gates are

Horses reared through the village as the wheels of the carriage bumped roughly on rocks. Dust spread with the wind as the guard stroked harder on the horses."Neighhh….." they shrieked as they thumped faster. Both father and daughter sat quietly in the carriage. Tension settled within them.Looking at her father's face, she could tell how furious he was, seeing how his eyes rested still on her, unwavering and steady. She gulped on saliva as her throat remained dry. Sticking her head outside the carriage, she caught a glimpse of Mercela. Feeling bad she dragged her into this."Sit down, Laura," King Snow commanded."Yes, father," she responded, taking her seat as she squeezed her fingers between her palms."Father," she called out, eyes filled with genuineness as she looked at him.King Snow hated seeing her like this. He never liked being in the position of disciplining her harshly, so he usually left it for his wife."I'm sorry, father. I just wanted to leave the palace walls and see

His gaze still focused on the alphabets, his eyes found the royal crest. It was really from the Royal House."Why am I being summoned?" His brows furrowed as he rolled up the tiny scroll. Looking into the large fields, he uttered nothing."What's that, dear?" Agatha had been behind him all this while, finally speaking. "I saw the raven. I thought it was a message for Morris, but I watched as it flew into the fields. So I followed it."Welsfar bit into his lower lip. "It's nothing," he said before storming out of the field.Agatha followed behind him, as a lot of thoughts crossed her mind. In plight to speak but couldn't."Hmm…" she mumbled.Standing in front of the hut, they exchanged glances. Seeing his grip loosen on the scroll, she snatched it as her steps quickened. Dashing into the house, she burst into the room with all her might. Gbim! The door made as she shot it tight behind her. Opening the scroll, she paced around the room."Agatha," Welsfar called from outside before sendin
