The comment caused a firestorm. Other users piled on.Rumors that I was a witch spread like wildfire.Even though the posts had been mysteriously suppressed on the first day, that only seemed to confirm the rumors' credibility.[Terrifying. A witch disguised as a werewolf, infiltrating a pack.][I heard she's close to the Alpha. What if she's trying to steal pack secrets?][Run her out of the pack. Or burn her at the stake.]The online mob grew more vicious by the day.I was afraid to leave the house, terrified someone might recognize me.Even the barrage was worried about my situation.[Maybe you should ask Soren for help. He's the Alpha. He'll know what to do.]But things between us had been so strained lately. With all this happening on top of it, I didn't know if Soren would take my side.I stared at my phone, debating whether to call him.Honestly, the online harassment didn't scare me. What worried me was that this could drag Soren and his pack down with me.Just as I was at a co

I was puzzled. My apartment rarely got any visitors at all.Yet today they were showing up like they'd coordinated in advance.I opened the door, and before I could even see who it was, someone threw their arms around my neck. Then Sophie's tearful voice rang in my ear."Keira, you've been going through so much..."The bear hug came out of nowhere, and I was completely bewildered.Sophie continued through her tears. "I made ten accounts and went at them in the comments section. The only reason I stopped was because I got too heated and all my accounts got banned. Otherwise I would've made twenty more.""Soren shut down a bunch of news outlets to suppress the story, but even that wasn't enough."That was when I noticed someone standing behind Sophie.I blinked. It was Soren. He looked worn and haggard, dark circles prominent under his eyes. He had clearly been running himself ragged over this.So during all those days when the online mob had been coming for me, I hadn't been bearing it

At the most upscale restaurant in the pack.Soren, having just paid the bill, gave the rest of us a look of deep betrayal."You all said 'our treat.' How did I end up being the only one paying?"Sophie winced and stuck out her tongue. "How was I supposed to know you'd pick this place? A single dish here costs my entire month's salary. There's no way I could cover it."Callum stirred his coffee unhurriedly. "I'm a guest in your territory. It wouldn't be proper for a guest to foot the bill."Soren had ordered an extra strawberry sundae specifically for me.A small gesture, but favoritism plain as day.I realized it must have been something I'd said that had gotten to Soren. His sudden kindness made me a little nervous. But beyond the nerves, there was something else.Being someone's favorite for the very first time felt wonderful.Halfway through the meal, Sophie suddenly remembered that today was the day she and Callum were supposed to fly back to their pack. And their flight was in les

But before I could fully grasp the meaning behind Soren's words, the dinner ended on an awkward note.On the walk home, a dark mood hung over me.I couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with me.While I was lost in thought, someone grabbed me from behind and pressed a cloth over my nose and mouth.A sharp, acrid smell flooded my senses.By the time I realized it was wolfsbane, it was too late.My eyes closed, and I sank into unconsciousness. When I opened my eyes again, I was in an abandoned factory. It was pitch black. Not a soul in sight. The only sound was the scrape of a knife being sharpened, echoing through the cavernous space.I was trussed up on the floor, unable to move. That was when it hit me. I'd been kidnapped. The sharpening stopped abruptly.Footsteps drew closer.I squeezed my eyes shut and pretended to be asleep. The footsteps stopped right beside me.I could feel the malice radiating from the person standing over me.A voice came from above. "You wicked witch. Die!

Half of Soren's face was hidden in shadow. I looked at the red tips of his ears and asked him a question."How did you find me?"He didn't answer. He just stared at me.Then warmth pressed against my lips.My mind went blank. All I could see was the barrage detonating in a frenzy.[Oh my god, they're kissing, they're kissing!][Should I even be watching this?][I knew it. Soren fell for her ages ago. He was just too stubborn to admit it.]Soren's fingers threaded through my hair, cradling my face and the curve of my ears. The world fell silent. The only sound was our heartbeats. When the kiss ended, Soren pulled back. His voice was hoarse."When I couldn't reach you, that's when I realized how terrified I was."He looked at me, a trace of hurt in his voice."And that's when I knew I can't live without you."But, but..."He paused for a moment, then went on."You said you liked me first. So why did you tell someone else you didn't have feelings for anyone?"His arm tightened around my w
