CHAPTER 1

Selina~Never in a million years would I have expected my life to fall apart on a random Tuesday evening.I had trained for hours in the gym, as usual. My body was tired, but I felt good, and I really wanted to see my boyfriend. After showering and changing, I grabbed a box of Brad's favorite chocolate pastries and headed to his apartment. He was the love of my life. The only person who felt desired about me, even with all my curves. I couldn't wait to tell him about my day and see that smile he always gave me.I was even wearing the blue dress he said made me look less bulky. It was my favorite dress now because of him, but the moment I reached his door, I noticed it was slightly ajar. I gently pushed it open and stepped inside. Then I heard it. Someone was shouting Brad's name over and over while moaning. The voice sounded far too familiar. My feet kept moving forward even though my brain was screaming at me to stop. I went deeper into the apartment, and the scene was seared into m

CHAPTER 2

Selina~I stood frozen in the middle of my room, clutching the old letter so tightly the edges were starting to tear. My heart wouldn't slow down. Everything Elian had said swirled in my head like a bad dream I couldn't wake up from.Carolina didn't die the way they told me. My father had her killed. Somehow, I was half Fae, and now a vampire was bound to protect me?!I must be in a nightmare, but before I could pinch myself, the knocking on my door came again. Harder this time."Selina, open this door immediately!" my father's voice boomed. He sounded impatient, and I knew if I didn't answer, he would break down the door.I quickly hid the letter under my pillow and wiped my face. My eyes were still swollen from crying earlier, but I knew with Father, he didn't care. I went to the door and opened it. My father stood there in his usual expensive suit, looking at me as if I were something he had to take care of. My mother stood slightly behind him, her face still. No one played the ro

CHAPTER 3

Selina~I knew I was probably in deep trouble for saying that, but what was the worst that could happen? He didn't say a word afterward, though, and turned to leave. Who was going to help me with my things if he wasn't going to?Tch, damned rude bastard! I muttered to myself as I dragged my luggage behind me.***The main hall of Runeblood Academy was eerily beautiful. Crystal chandeliers floated in the air without ropes. Soft golden light mingled with glowing runes on the walls. Flowers I'd never seen before bloomed around the stage, their petals changing color every few seconds. It would have been magical if I weren't standing there like a lamb about to be sacrificed.Hundreds of students and important people filled the seats. Werewolves, Fae, dragons, vampires. They were all staring at me. Some looked curious. Most looked disgusted. I could clearly hear the whispers. Why is a human here? She's so round. The Alpha Heir has to bond with her?My face burned with shame, but I held my

CHAPTER 4

Selina~The pain in my shoulder woke me before the sun even rose. I groaned softly as I tried to sit up. The wound from the rogue wolf's claws burned like fire every time I moved.I immediately noticed that someone had changed me into a loose shirt while I slept. It was probably one of the Academy Handmaids, but the bandages were already stained with blood. I felt sore all over.I slowly looked around the room. It was beautiful. Too beautiful. A large bed, dark wood furniture, and a window that offered a stunning view of the mountains. But none of that mattered because this wasn't just my room.It was our shared quarters.I froze when I heard movement in the living area. Raymond was already awake. I could hear him moving around, probably making coffee or something. The memory of last night came flooding back. The way he carried me, his warm body, the smell of him, and then his cold words before he slammed the door.I hated how my stomach churned at the thought.I forced myself out of

CHAPTER 5

Selina~"Stop talking," he said, his voice so deep and rough it took my breath away. I stood there, staring up at him as his cold gaze pierced right through me. The air between us suddenly felt stifling. My heart was racing, and I hated that my body reacted this way to his proximity. He was still too close. His scent enveloped me—strong and masculine, with an underlying wildness that made my head spin, though I’d never admit it."What do you mean, 'my scent'?" I asked, forcing my voice to remain calm. "You’re a werewolf, talking about scents like it’s normal. I’m not an animal. I’m human.""Half-fae," he corrected, his eyes briefly sweeping over my face. "Your blood smells pure. Too pure. It bothers me."I took a step back; the intensity of his gaze frightened me—and stirred something else I didn't want to name. "You have no right to speak to me like that. You humiliated me in front of everyone. You called me pathetic after saving me. What is your problem, Raymond?"He let out a sho

CHAPTER 6

SelinaBefore I could answer, he turned and walked away. I stood alone in the courtyard, feeling the wind stir my hair. My stomach felt tight. He had almost apologized. Almost. And he had issued a warning. That was more than I had expected. That evening, I was back in the archives with Alfred. Geraldine stopped by briefly and spoke to him in a low voice. Their gazes lingered longer than necessary, and I couldn't help but smile. At least someone here had a chance at something good. When night fell, I returned to the shared quarters. Raymond was already there. He was sitting at the table, reading something. He looked up as I entered.Have you eaten?Yes. Alfred brought me something.Of course. Nice guy, Brandon.I sat down across from him. Why do you leave food out for me if you hate me?He closed the book. Because the bond weakens if you’re weak. And because I don’t want you collapsing and blaming me.That’s the worst excuse I’ve ever heard. He shrugged. It’s the truth. We sat in silen

CHAPTER 7

SelinaRaymond stepped closer. His scent enveloped me once more—that scent that made my head spin. You should be careful whom you trust. Rowan belongs to a clan interested in pure souls.I know. Elian told me that many people here have reasons to stay close to me.At the mention of Elian’s name, Raymond’s expression darkened. The vampire. Where is he, anyway? He’s supposed to be guarding you, yet he only shows up when it suits him. He’s here. I saw him this morning. He’s keeping his distance because the bond makes you restless.Raymond gave a short, bitter laugh. The bond makes me restless. Your scent makes me restless. Your magic makes me restless. Everything about you makes the wolf restless.I stared at him. Then leave the wolf alone. I didn’t ask you to save me. I didn’t ask you to watch over me. And I didn’t ask you to leave behind ointment and shirts. He took another step closer—so close I could feel his breath. You think I do this out of kindness. I do it because the bond deman

CHAPTER 8

Selina~The book felt heavy in my hands as I entered the training room. The sun had already set, and the lamps cast long shadows against the walls. Raymond stood in the center of the mat. He wore only dark training pants, and his bare chest glistened slightly with sweat from an earlier run. The snake tattoo shifted with every breath. His ice-blue eyes lifted as I closed the door."You came," he said."You invited me. Or ordered me. Depending on how you read it."He shrugged. "Put the book down. We’re starting."I placed the manual on a bench and stepped onto the mat. My hands felt cold. The magic was already tingling beneath my skin, sensing his proximity."Control first," he explained. "No attacks. Just summoning and holding. Think of something neutral. The mountain. The wind. Not anger. Not me."Too late. The thought of him was already there. Sparks appeared instantly. Green and gold danced around my fingers, illuminating his face."Breathe. Slowly. Hold it."I breathed. The lights

CHAPTER 9

Selina~Raymond. He looked up.The Bond. He makes everything complicated. But tonight, I hate you a little less.A brief smile flitted across his face—so quickly that I thought I’d imagined it. Then it was gone.Sleep, Selina. The wolf can hear you.I closed the door and leaned against it. My heart was racing. The magic tingled contentedly beneath my skin. And somewhere in the apartment, the man I was supposed to hate—the man slowly pulling the ground out from under my feet—was moving about.I got into bed and opened the manual. The pages spoke of breathing and focus, and of the danger when emotions took control. I read until the letters blurred. Then I set it aside and closed my eyes.In my dream, I was back on the mat. Raymond was close. Sparks enveloped us both. And this time, he didn’t pull me back. This time, he simply let the magic, the bond, and everything else take their course. When I woke up the next morning, a new pair of hand wraps lay on the nightstand. Beside them were a

CHAPTER 10

"You aren't going anywhere alone. Not anymore. Training. Archives. Cafeteria. I or Rowan, or nice Brandon”. Understood.I’m not a child. You’re a target. And I’m bound to you. So you listen. The hardness in his voice was all too familiar. But beneath it lay something else. Concern. Genuine concern."Agreed," I said. "But then you listen, too. If the curse gets too strong, you tell me. No heroics."He stared at me. Then he nodded once. "Deal."We trained for another hour. The magic grew more stable. The blocks held longer. And every time our hands touched, I felt the bond pulsing more strongly. When the first students began walking through the corridors, we ended the session. Raymond tossed me a fresh towel."Shower. Eat. Then the archives. Alfred is already waiting.""How do you know that?""Because nice Brandon sent me a message. He found new texts. About the curse and the bond."I blinked. "You two message each other?""Only when necessary. Go."I went. In my quarters, I showered qu
