Zoe MooreI let the cool evening air blow against me, my hair blowing lightly in the wind. I was sitting very close to the shore, my toes almost touching the seawater. I liked the feeling. The grainy feel of the sand against my palms and thighs and the cold feeling of the seawater against my toes.It felt good to be here. I had dropped Noelle, my daughter, at my best friend Harper's house. My mom finally convinced me to take a break from everything and have some fun, even if it was going to be short. Being a single mother who has to work to support her family while caring for a three-year-old daughter is not easy. I haven’t had a proper vacation in far too long.I was reluctant, but I finally gave in.It was worth it.I had flown over here on Friday and planned to leave on Sunday because of work. It was hard to fully enjoy my break as I kept getting calls from work. Today was different in a way that calmed me.No calls from work or messages from Noelle's school reminding me about unpa

He pushed in slowly. So slow I felt every thick inch stretch me open until he was buried to the hilt. The burn was exquisite. I felt stuffed, claimed, fuller than I’d ever been. He held still, forehead resting against mine, giving me time to adjust. Only when I rolled my hips, craving more, did he begin to move. Long, deep strokes. Each one hitting the perfect spot. His hand found mine above my head and laced our fingers tightly. The other slid under my thigh, opening me wider so he could sink even deeper. I felt him everywhere.“Look at me,” he ordered when my eyes started to close. “I want to watch.”I forced my gaze to stay on his. He didn't break the rhythm, just kept driving into me with a steady, relentless pace until I was moaning on every thrust. Wet, filthy sounds filled the room as his cock dragged in and out of my soaked pussy. With our rhythm, I felt sparks of pleasure so intense it made my toes curl.I’d never been fucked this good before. Every deliberate drag of his coc

The door to Harper’s house opened, and a mop of brown hair crashed into me. I laughed out loud as I held my daughter close to my chest.“How are you doing, my darling?” I asked, beaming. Harper leaned lazily on the counter, a piece of pancake between her fingers as she chewed, staring at us, her hair in total disarray.“I've missed you, Mum,” Noelle said with a wide smile. I ruffled her hair and pinched her cheeks playfully.“I've missed you more, my darling,” I cooed.“She has only been gone for three days,” Harper pointed out and reached for another pancake. Noelle turned and stuck out her tongue at her. Harper stuck out her tongue too, and half-chewed pancake fell out of her mouth.“Gross,” Noelle said with a laugh and ran off.“Your daughter bullies me, Zoe,” Harper grumbled as she cleaned up the mess.“Well, she learnt from the best,” I said with a shrug as I flopped down on her couch. Harper brought forth the plate of pancakes and sat down beside me on the couch.“You went only

Hugh looked taken aback. After a bit, he seemed pleasantly surprised.I was frozen, staring straight at him. Lane seemed to notice something was off, as I didn't even hear him call my name until he tapped me. I was brought back to reality with a start.I tore my gaze from Hugh and looked everywhere but at him.“I'm sorry. I'm feeling a bit dizzy. I need to leave and get back home to rest.”Lane frowned in concern.“Zoe… are you okay?”“Yes, I am. It’s just, I need… air.” Looking at Lane, I continued, “I'll take a cab. Don't bother about me and carry on.”I didn't look at Hugh. I couldn't. If I met those dark eyes again, I would shatter right there on the marble floor. So, clutching my purse like a lifeline, I walked…or rather, I fled out of the banquet hall. The cool night air hit my face the moment I stepped outside, but it didn't cool down the fire in me. My heels clicked furiously against the pavement as I walked away. I took a deep breath and sighed as I hailed a cab. The cab man

The morning began with a lot of drama -bowls of cereal, missing socks, and a frantic search for a head tie. I held Noelle's hand in mine as we walked towards the car. She sat in, a kid's storybook in her hand. I kept glancing at her as I drove her to school. I dropped her off, pressed a kiss on her forehead, and watched her dash in.I walked back slowly to the car and drove to work. I worked as a surgeon at a hospital. The hospital was chaotic in a calming way. I sat at my desk as I went through patients’ files. The first few consultations were straightforward—a post-op check and a minor fracture. I was grateful not to have too much added to what was bothering me.I was finishing my notes when my phone rang, startling me. I checked the caller ID and hesitated when I saw that it was my mom. She knows I don’t like taking calls on duty. The last time she called was to tell me to go on a short vacation; I doubted she was calling me for that same reason again.I finally gave in and picked

HUGH’S POVThe office door clicked closed behind me. Zoe sat behind her desk, trying desperately to keep her professional mask intact, but I could see she wasn't going to keep up the act for too long. Her hands trembled slightly as they rested weakly against her laptop.I didn't bother wasting time with pleasantries, moving straight to the point.“Why did you run away, Zoe?”She was taken aback, obviously not expecting me to be that straightforward. Her lips quivered as she hesitated. I thought she wasn't going to talk, but she did two seconds later.“I…what?”“You just disappeared without a trace, Zoe,” I pointed out.Her spine straightened, and she immediately went all defensive.“No, you were gone before I woke up, Hugh. I assumed that was what you wanted, that you felt like whatever we had that night was just a fling. It's a one-night stand to you, no strings attached. Of course I had to leave,” she finished off.Something in my chest twisted.“I had an emergency pack matter I had

ZOE'S POV I couldn't focus on work throughout the day. My mind kept going back to the conversation I had with Hugh. I tried my best not to let my emotions get in the way of my work.Every time I closed my eyes, I kept seeing Hugh's face and the seriousness behind it. And there was Lane, who oddly kept interrupting my thoughts and my mother's plea earlier.I got so distracted I didn't know when I ended up prescribing the wrong dosage for another post-op patient. The nurse gave me a strange look, and I forced myself to snap back to reality.By the time my shift ended, I was tired. Physically and emotionally. I gathered my things, changed out of my scrubs, and walked towards the hospital exit, where I'd parked. My mind was mainly on getting home to take a hot bath, and perhaps a glass of wine.I pushed open the clean glass doors and stepped outside into the cool evening air.Parked at the curb was a sleek black car that looked totally out of place in the hospital parking lot. I became sk

I looked away from Hugh's car and went inside my apartment. The door closed behind me. The door closed like a wall between us.Noelle took my hand. Pulled me into the kitchen. "Mommy, come see what Harper and I made! We made cookies with chocolate chips. I put the chocolate chips in myself. I counted them all!"I smiled at her. "You did? How many did you count?"Noelle said, "I counted to twenty! Then Harper said that was enough. I think we should have used more," she whinedHarper was standing by the counter. When our eyes met, I knew she could tell something was wrong.Noelle gave me a cookie. " Mommy, try one. They are the best!"I took a bite. The cookie was sweet. I was not really tasting it because my mind was still on what Hugh said.Noelle pulled my hand. "Mommy, are you okay? You look funny."“I am, sweetheart. The cookies are great. You did a good job." I forced a smile when I noticed the small frown she had on her face."I will go get some milk! Harper said we can have milk

I woke up this morning with a start. The morning sunlight streamed in from the curtains I forgot to draw together. Something heavy was on my stomach, and I groaned, wondering what that was. Harper snored lightly beside me. It turned out that it was her leg sprawled against my stomach.I let out a small curse and flung it away, muttering something about wanting to kill my unborn child. I got up with a groan. I adjusted the curtains so the sunlight wouldn't affect Harper, who was still sleeping.I took my brush and headed to Noelle's room to wake her up. She yawned lazily, and I brushed her teeth while she kept talking about her baking episode with Harper yesterday.By the time I was in the kitchen making breakfast for her and Harper, Noelle was on her tab, watching cartoons. I heard a knock on the door. Furrowing my brows, I wondered who might be here at this time.I wiped my wet hands on a kitchen towel, totally forgetting I was still in my flimsy, skimpy nightwear. I went to open the

HUGH's POVMy phone rang, and I moved away from the window, dropped my cup of coffee, and went to pick it up. I glanced at my watch.6:23 amOnly one person would call by this time.I reached for my phone and picked up the call.“What do you want now?” I asked, not wanting to waste time.“C’mon, Dad, you don't have to be so blunt. I just need a few bucks from you. I got into a little problem…”“Carl, I’ve warned you not to call me anymore. How do you keep getting into trouble? If you're not going to change…”“Yo, chill! I just need a few bucks from you I don't need you to scold me or something. You gon’ send it or not?” Carl slurred. It was barely 7 in the morning, and he was already drunk. I rubbed my temple.“Did you go to rehab I paid for?” I asked.“Are you gonna send it or not?” He repeated, getting angrier.“No, I won't be sending more money, Carl. Not anymore. You need to…”The line went dead before I could finish my sentence, and I just tossed my phone aside with a sigh.Carl
