Draven was smiling.I stared at him.No.That wasn't right. The man standing over my dead body couldn't be Draven. Not my Draven. Not the man who had held me while I was dying. Not the man who had crossed an entire battlefield to reach me.But the face was unmistakable. His face. His eyes. His scar.Everything.I tried to move.I couldn't.I wasn't inside my body.I was watching.Watching the past.Watching the First Luna lie dead on the ground.Watching the first Alpha kneel beside her.Draven's hand reached toward my face.He touched my cheek. Then he whispered,"I'm sorry."My heart shattered. The smile disappeared. His expression became one of pure grief."I had no other choice."A second figure stepped out of the shadows.Kaelen.But he looked young.Human.Beautiful, almost. His hands were covered in blood."You killed her."Draven looked up."No."Kaelen laughed."You stabbed her.""Because you were going to take her.""I loved her.""You loved what she could give you."Kaelen'

The moon turned red.Not slowly. Not like an ordinary eclipse. One moment, silver light covered the courtyard. The next, the entire sky burned crimson.Every wolf outside the fortress dropped its head. Then they howled. The sound shook the stones beneath my feet.I tightened my grip around Moonfang. The ancient sword trembled in my hand. Not from fear. From recognition. It was as if the blade had been waiting for this moment for a thousand years.Draven stepped in front of me.His shoulders were tense, his eyes fixed on the army surrounding our fortress."Stay behind me."I almost laughed."Absolutely not."His jaw tightened."Sera.""Draven."He looked over his shoulder at me.For one heartbeat, neither of us moved. Then his expression softened."You really are impossible.""And you married me anyway."A faint smile touched his lips."Best mistake I ever made."The smile disappeared when a voice echoed across the courtyard."How touching."High Priestess Elara stepped forward. The tw

"Who your mother really was."The woman's words hung in the air.I couldn't move. For a moment, I forgot about the red moon.Forgot about the creature beneath the fortress.Forgot about the thousands of wolves surrounding us.There was only one thought in my mind.My mother.I had spent years believing I knew everything about her.She had been ordinary.Human, perhaps.Weak.Gone.A memory that had once hurt so badly that I had eventually learned to live around the empty space she left behind. But Selene had taken that pain from me.She had taken the emotional memory.I could remember my mother's face. Her hands. Her voice. But I couldn't remember what it felt like to lose her. Now, suddenly, I wished I could."Who are you?" I asked. The woman stepped forward. The air changed around her.Every wolf lowered its head.Even the Devourer.Even Elara.Draven didn't bow.Neither did I.The woman's eyes moved toward him."You still refuse to kneel."Draven's expression hardened."I don't kne

Something descended from the broken moon.At first, I thought it was a reflection. Then it moved.Silver wings unfolded behind her.A long white dress flowed around her body as if she were underwater. And when she landed in the courtyard, the stones beneath her feet turned white. She looked exactly like me.Same face.Same eyes.Same dark hair. But there was one difference. Her eyes were completely silver. No pupils. No emotion. She stared at me.Then she smiled."Finally."My skin crawled.Draven stepped in front of me.The woman tilted her head."You always do that.""Do what?""Stand between me and her."Draven's voice was cold."Who are you?"The woman looked amused."You know.""I don't.""You will."She raised one hand. The entire courtyard shook.Draven was thrown backward."Draven!"I ran toward him.A silver barrier appeared between us.I slammed my hand against it."Draven!"He pushed himself up."I'm fine."The woman smiled."Still pretending to be strong."Draven growled.

The moment we crossed the doorway, the battlefield disappeared. No wolves. No fortress. No red moon.No screams.Only silence.Draven's hand was still wrapped around mine.I looked behind us.The doorway was gone."We're trapped," he said.I shook my head."No."I could feel it.This place wasn't a prison. It was a memory.A very old one.We stood in the middle of a vast city.Silver towers rose toward the sky.Bridges made of white stone connected enormous buildings.Thousands of wolves walked through the streets. But they weren't wearing armor. They weren't fighting. They were laughing.Children ran between them.Merchants shouted.Music floated through the air.It was peaceful.Beautiful.Impossible.Draven stared."This doesn't look like the world we know.""It isn't."A voice came from behind us.We turned. The First Luna stood there. She no longer looked terrifying. She looked human.Young.Alive.She wore a simple white dress. No crown. No weapons. No blood. She smiled at us."
