All Chapters of Alpha Was Betrayed by Kisses, Saved in Silence: Chapter 1 - Chapter 7

Twyla Nightveil’s POV “A friend volunteered to take care of your son an hour earlier than usual?” Mrs. Monroe greeted me with a sweet smile. “We can say that,” I nodded and smiled back while adjusting my uniform jacket. The Grand Stardust Hotel was busy tonight. For four years I’d hidden here, gliding through shadows, keeping my head down, making sure no one looked at me too closely. It was just another shift. And it would have stayed that way if Stella hadn’t been so nervous. The new girl was shaking so hard the water pitcher in her hands trembled, and before I could even step in to stop it, the glass tipped. Clear water splashed across the front of the emerald silk gown worn by Britt Samson, daughter of one of the city’s most powerful real estate tycoons. “Are you kidding me?! Do you have any idea how much this cost?!” Britt shrieked, loud and sharp, rising from her chair like she’d been burned. Stella froze, her face draining of all color, ready to dissolve into tears. I ste

Twyla Nightveil's POV I burst through my door, and Stacey was there, arms crossed, face tight. "You finally here?" she said, stepping back. "Doctor just left. He was stable now, but Twyla, it was bad. He was wheezing so hard his whole little body shook. Doctor said next time don't wait. If his chest tightened like that again, call her immediately. She said his asthma was getting worse. He needed more regular checkups, better medication, maybe a specialist. It wasn't just a cold anymore." My throat closed up as I dropped my bag and rushed to the bedroom after giving my friend a quick goodbye hug. Xerius was propped up with pillows, his cheeks flushed, those bluish-green eyes heavy and tired. When he saw me, he smiled, small and weak. "Mama," he whispered. I sat on the edge of the bed and stroked his hair. "I'm here, baby. I'm right here. How are you feeling?" "Hard to breathe," he said softly. "But the medicine helped. Stacey gave me the strawberry one. It tasted funny." I smil

Twyla Nightveil’s POV Saturday night. The Grand Stardust Hotel was busier than usual, the restaurant filled with wealthy guests and business deals being struck over champagne. I put on my practiced smile and pushed through the exhaustion. Every extra shift and every tip meant better medicine for Xerius. I was so grateful they still let me work here even on weekends, they knew about my son’s condition. My manager even found out I’d received a higher offer, but of course I couldn’t tell them from whom. When I approached the table in the far corner, my breath caught. Sitting there, looking devastatingly handsome and utterly out of place among the others, was Cody Valtier. The moment his eyes landed on me, everything in him stilled. The glass in his hand stopped halfway to his lips. His posture shifted, alert, every muscle coiled tight. He stared at me like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing, like the sight of me in this uniform, in this place, serving strangers again, irritat

Twyla Nightveil’s POV My head snapped toward him. “No.” “I wasn’t asking you to marry me.” “I know exactly what you meant.” His jaw tightened. A muscle jumped near his temple, but he kept his voice controlled. “Then stop making this difficult.” “Your penthouse isn’t an option.” “Why?” “Because it’s yours.” He stared at me as though that were the stupidest answer he’d ever heard. His brows drew together, disbelief flashing across his face. “The roads are closed. Your apartment is inaccessible. The hotel is closed.” He stepped closer. “You have nowhere else to go.” I swallowed. “I can stay here.” “Of course not. I’m not leaving you alone in an empty building.” “I’ve survived four years without you.” His expression changed, the faintest flicker of something wounded crossing his eyes before it disappeared. “I know.” The two words came out quieter than I expected. I looked away. “Just let me wait until the rain stops.” “It won’t stop anytime soon.” I didn’t an
