I zipped the suitcase shut and turned around. When I saw the smug look on Liam's face, I couldn't help bursting into laughter."Don't flatter yourself," I said.I grabbed the suitcase, took aim at his face, and swung it at him with all my strength. It slammed into him hard, making him shout in pain and fall straight onto his ass."I'm not that stupid." I pointed at the front door. "Don't forget whose name is on the deed—it's mine. You're the one who needs to get the hell out. Take your crap and get out of my house, now!"Liam stared at me, his eyes wide with disbelief, as if he were looking at a monster. "Are you nuts, Erica? I paid half the down payment on this place! What gives you the right to kick me out?""What gives me the right?" I stared him down, my eyes frosty. "Because you're the one who cheated. You don't get to negotiate with me."I pulled out my phone and waved it in front of him. "Take a good look. I've been recording ever since I walked through the front door. All

Liam remained silent on the other end of the line.I went on, "Don't be stupid. I'm not giving you that chance."His breathing grew noticeably heavier.I couldn't help letting out a cold laugh. "Besides, you're the one who signed that agreement and willingly gave me the apartment. No one put a gun to your head and made you do it."Liam finally snapped. "But you promised me!"I actually found that funny. "What good is a promise? When we first started dating, you promised you'd never fall in love with another woman. Didn't you still cheat in the end?"He was at a loss for words.Meanwhile, I was running out of patience. "Liam, there's only one person to blame for things ending up the way they are now, and that's you for being brainless."It's your fault for cheating and for failing to keep it in your pants. And you were stupid enough to let me catch you red-handed. If you dared to do it, you should've expected the consequences."The line went silent for a few seconds.I couldn'

Liam got the news almost immediately. He called me in a rage, his voice shaking with anger. "Erica, do you really have to take things this far? Do you have to calculate every last cent and leave no room for even a shred of what we had?""Have you just met me?" I let out a cold laugh, my tone indifferent. "I've always been the type to settle scores. If someone wrongs me, I don't let it slide. Since your family insisted on making a scene outside my door, they've gotta deal with the fallout. Don't start talking to me about old feelings. You don't get to."With that, I hung up on him before he could keep yapping.Under my lawyer's nonstop pressure, Liam ran out of options. Afraid this would go on his record and affect his job, he had no choice but to start borrowing money from anyone he could find. After a few days, he wired back every cent I'd spent on him over the years, not a dollar short. The day he passed the transaction record to me, he locked his eyes on me, his gaze full of v

The cops showed up pretty fast and took Liam and me back to the station to give statements. We ended up in a mediation room, where Liam shook like a leaf."Officer, I really didn't take her ring! I swear!" He was so panicked that his eyes turned bloodshot, and he just kept repeating the same thing.I sat across from him with one leg crossed over the other. I said coolly, "I only trust the security footage. It shows that you're the only one who went to my desk, and you're the one who dug through my drawer.""I only went there for the USB—" Liam started, trying to argue."So you admit you stole something from me?" I cut him off.He froze, his face turning a dark, ugly red.To be fair, I didn't have hard evidence that Liam had taken the ring. But he had even less proof that he hadn't. The cameras had clearly caught him in the act, plus he really had stolen my USB drive. He couldn't explain that away.We were at a stalemate for hours. The cops saw that we were getting nowhere. Th
