LiamThe smell of sunshine warms my insides.Right.That is how everything feels. Like I've finally found what I’ve been waiting for ever since my beast I emerged at sixteen.Hazel is curled against my side, one arm draped across my stomach, her golden hair spread across my chest like silk. For a long moment, I didn't move. I just lie there and let myself enjoy it.Tracing the curve of her bare shoulder and memorizing the feeling of her butter-soft skin. This rarely happens.I'm all the nights we spent together. She has slept in my room three times.Hazel is independent to a fault. Even when she sleeps, she's usually halfway across the bed by morning, claiming her own space. Trying to keep a wall between us.Not today.Today she's tucked against me, burying her face into my chest like she wants to be nowhere in the world beside me.My wolf practically purrs. If you opened your mouth and wooed her. Told her she was ours, this would be an everyday occurrence.I suppress a smile to be co

AriaThe forge is already blazing when I walk in, heat rolling across my skin in shimmering waves. It is a comfort to have the fire caress my skin. The banging of Ransom’s hammers is a steady background rhythm.I barely notice it as I zero in on Hazel and Felix, who are sitting at a long steel table covered with tools, runes, and pieces of unfinished weapons. The front of his short curly hair is tied back, his sleeves rolled to his elbows. Hazel is kneeling on the floor beside a circle painted in silver powder and ash.The fourth circle this week.I can't say the first three attempts built up our confidence, and I know they're feeling the weight of this. Without a successful trace of power, it prolongs the time until the weapons get into the hands of the warriors. It means less time to train and a lower chance of being ready when the assembly attacks.I cross my arms and look down at the metal claw jackets resting in the center of the rune circle. This has to work this time.“I think

TheoAnd just like that, Hazam's focus shifts completely toward her.“Are you taunting me?” he says with a smirk.“Just a little,” she teases. “But come on, Hazam, I know your wolf can't let what they did stand. At the very least, think about it.”Neither of them listens.Hazam leans forward. “Do you want to know what I like about you?” he tells her, “Your determination. But even so, if I do consider this and agree, what am I agreeing to? This course of action? To give some of my men up for this mission?”“Your agreement. Just like we got agreement from the other Alphas.”“They agreed?” He asksAria nods.He goes silent and then turns to me. “And why was this not done in a meeting with us all?”“As you know, our weapons were just made. Everyone is scattered at the moment, training, learning, securing the mountain, or patrolling. As the days pass, we realize how much needs to be done and can't afford to waste time. We hope to send out a team tomorrow.”His eyebrow raises. “That soon?”

BarricRansom’s scent reaches me before I see him.Blood. Sweat. Pine sap. Victory. The thunderous sound of footsteps of our raiding party can be heard coming up the main hallway.I stand near the mouth of the hall path, watching as they emerge wet and covered in leaves and mud. Some are naked, letting me know they shifted during battle.“My Princess,” Elliot calls out, passing by and heading to Ransom. “Animals. How dare they put their hands on you?”“I'm fine,” Ransom says. Then I spot the man being dragged behind two wolves. An unconscious Hunter. His hands are bound behind his back with reinforced restraints, his face bruised and streaked with dirt. One eye is swollen shut.My wolf lifts his head inside me. We must secure him before anyone else finds out.Ransom catches my gaze as he passes. He gives me a single, deliberate nod.It was Hazam.Fucking bastard.“Leave the prisoner with me,” I order, scenting Theo and Kade coming behind me.The hunter groans as he's exchanged into my

KadeThe Hunter, Kendrick, is sitting in the same spot, perfectly still when we enter. Still the look of defiance I expected is nothing more than a blank mask.I'm not sure if that is a good thing, but either way we will get exactly what we came for today. The tides are shifting in our favor.I can feel it.Maybe it is because the Parexilla is working in his system.Kendrick shifts causing the shakes on his wrist to clink to the stone ground. His breathing remains steady, pupils slightly dilated, his muscles relaxed in a way that lets me know he's ready to head my call.Aria stops by the wall along with Elliot and Ransom. The Alpha nods to me, letting me know to start. We had agreed that I, being the only faint, would take point.Elliot folds his arms while Ransom remains near the back wall like he's bracing himself for whatever he's about to hear.I knew, intellectually, that all hunters couldn't harbor the hatred we thought they did. But knowing Hazel and Ransom made it clear that t
