On the night of the full moon. The door closed behind us.Deucalion walked to the window and stared out at the moon for a long moment. I stayed near the door, the ceremonial gown still clinging to my skin. Finally he turned. He looked me in the eye. “Get on the bed.”His voice was flat.I did not move.He looked at me then, just briefly, and the cold in his eyes made my chest tighten.“Do not make this harder than it already is.”I walked to the bed and sat on the edge.He removed his shirt without a word. The hard lines of his chest and shoulders caught the moonlight. When he came to me, every movement was controlled. Efficient. Detached. He kissed me deeply. His hands pushed the gown off my shoulders. The fabric slid down my arms and pooled at my waist. His palms moved over my breasts, firm and assessing, thumbs brushing across my nipples until they hardened against his touch. There was no tenderness in it. Only the slow, deliberate way a man completes a required task.He pushed me

I stayed on the edge of my bed long after leaving my father’s study. The envelope sat on the desk.Black wax. Blackridge’s mark.My future, sealed before I even knew it existed.I reached for it and broke the seal. The paper inside felt thick. It carried the faint scent of another pack.I unfolded it. My eyes moved across the first lines. To Aria, the chosen mate of the First Son of Blackridge…I stopped breathing. I read it again. Then again.Aria.Not Malia.A strange feeling spread through my chest.Relief.Real, overwhelming relief. Blackridge did not know about my family’s plan. They were expecting Aria. They had chosen Aria.Which meant everything my parents had arranged could fall apart before it even began.A small smile almost reached my lips.“So you don’t even know,” I whispered.I read the rest of the letter.Aria was expected at Blackridge territory tomorrow for a formal introduction with the First Son. The mating arrangement would be discussed before the coming full moon

The room went silent after my father’s words.“It’s either Deucalion marries Malia, or there’s no deal.”I stared at him, hardly believing what I had heard. Blackridge’s Alpha leaned back slowly. His eyes moved from my father to me. “You said your daughter is strong.”“She is,” my father replied. “Stronger than Aria.”My stomach tightened. The Luna looked at me carefully. “How strong?”“Her wolf awakened early. She has been training since she was young.”I wanted to laugh. Now, suddenly, my strength mattered. The Alpha folded his hands. “Then you should understand why this matters. Blackridge is not an ordinary bloodline.” He looked at his son. “Every Alpha born into this family carries more strength than the generation before him. Our bloodline is difficult to carry. A weak Luna may not survive pregnancy with a Blackridge heir.”The Luna continued quietly. “We have lost women before. That is why we stopped rushing our sons into marriage.”Deucalion’s jaw tightened. His mother looked

“You will regret this, Malia. I promise you that.” Aria’s words hung in the air long after she said them. She stood a few steps away, her eyes fixed on me with a hatred I had never seen before. This was different. For the first time in my life, I felt threatened by my own younger sister. I wanted to tell her I never asked for any of this. That I had been dragged here because our parents decided I was easier to sacrifice. But I was too tired. My body ached, my neck burned, and my mind was still trying to understand how one night could destroy so much. The eldest elder raised his hand. “That is enough. The ceremony is over. Everyone return to your homes.” The crowd slowly began to move. Whispers followed me from every direction. Aria’s parents hurried toward her. My mother grabbed her arm while my father tried to speak to her. She pulled away, still staring at me. Then they took her with them. I remained where I was. Unlike Aria, I had nowhere to go. This was my home now

I stayed in my room longer than I should have after the conversation with the Luna. The words from the two servants still circled in my head. Some of them were starting to accept me. Some still called me the replacement. I did not know which one bothered me more. Night had fully settled over Blackridge when a knock came at my door. I opened it. A young servant stood there with her eyes lowered. “Luna Malia. Alpha Deucalion requests your presence in his room.” My stomach tightened. “Now?” “Yes.” I closed the door for a moment and pressed my hand against the incomplete mark. It still ached. Then I followed her down the long corridor. Deucalion’s door was already open. He stood near the window with his back to me, shirtless, the moonlight cutting across the hard lines of his shoulders. The servant left quietly. I stepped inside. He did not turn around immediately. “Close the door.” I did. Only then did he face me. His eyes were cold. “Take off your clothes and get on t
