Celine didn’t sleep. She sat on the edge of her bed until dawn, staring at the photograph. Her mother had been dead for fifteen years. At least, that was what she’d believed. There had been a funeral. A burial. A grave. Memories that Celine had never questioned. Until now. The archive memory was completely absent. The retired clerk, Benson, described the man who accompanied her as tall, dark-haired and dressed like a doctor. He was certain it was not Marcus. Celine's fear deepened because the false memory seemed carefully designed rather than random. A photocopy showed Celine's name and a signature that was almost hers. Benson remembered her asking questions about marriage and medical authority. Adam began to wonder whether someone had been preparing a legal framework for controlling his treatment before the accident even happened. A second message arrived telling them to ask Victoria what had happened. Victoria admitted she had seen marcus after the accident and that he had been frightened. She had not known whom he was running from. Celine confronted her abou
