All Chapters of His Human Mate, His Greatest Threat: Chapter 161 - Chapter 170

AVASomething had changed about Damien since he returned from his birthplace, although he hadn't sat me down to explain what he had discovered or why he occasionally looked at me with an expression that made me feel as though he was having a private argument with himself. He was still possessive, still ridiculously overprotective, and still capable of making an entire room of grown men uncomfortable simply by entering it, but he had started asking what I wanted instead of immediately telling me what he thought was best. When I complained about the guards following me around the mansion, he actually reduced their number, and when I wanted to spend the afternoon in the garden, he came outside and sat with me instead of insisting that I remain near the medical wing.I wasn't stupid enough to believe the man had suddenly become an angel, but I was enjoying this version of him, particularly because it made it much easier to get things out of his wallet. That evening, I found him sitting on

AVAThe sound of something crashing behind the bedroom door made me jerk so violently that the blanket tangled around my legs, and before I could even understand what had happened, the four guards Damien had left inside the room were already moving. One of them had been standing near the entrance, another beside the windows, while the remaining two stayed close enough to the bed to reach me quickly. They all turned towards the connecting door at the same time, but the first attacker didn't come through the main entrance. He burst through the smaller door leading to the dressing room, sending a wooden panel crashing against the wall as he lunged into the bedroom with a weapon in his hand. The guard nearest him intercepted the attack, and their bodies slammed into the wardrobe so hard that the mirror shattered across the floor. Another attacker followed immediately, then a third, and suddenly there were men coming out of a room I had thought was secure, wearing dark clothing and carryin

AVAFor several seconds, I stared at Cassian as though he had just offered me a lifetime supply of free chicken instead of something that could destroy the only connection I had to the man I loved. The mate bond had caused me pain, confusion, jealousy, and more arguments than I could count, but it had also brought me Damien, and despite everything that had happened between us, I couldn't imagine choosing a life where he was nothing more than a stranger.I looked down at my stomach, rubbing the place where our baby had kicked earlier, and the thought of being free from Damien crossed my mind in a way I didn't particularly like. No more feeling his pain through the bond, no more worrying that his enemies could use me to hurt him, and perhaps no more waking up terrified that one day I would watch him die because he couldn't keep his enemies away from our family. It sounded tempting for about three seconds. Then I remembered the way he held me when I was frightened, how he had learned to

AVAThe sound of fighting outside the building had become so loud that I could barely hear Cassian speaking, and every time another crash shook the windows, my hands moved instinctively towards my stomach. The burning on my neck had eased slightly, but the pain low in my abdomen hadn't gone away, and I was beginning to feel frightened by how long it had lasted.Cassian stood near the window, speaking to one of his men while the guard beside the door kept checking his weapon. Neither of them looked particularly worried, which made me wonder whether they had another escape route or whether they genuinely believed Damien wouldn't get through their defenses. Then something struck the outer gate. The entire room trembled, and the guard near the door immediately reached for his radio. He listened for a few seconds before turning towards Cassian, his expression changing as he delivered whatever message had come through.Cassian put down his glass."Move the remaining men to the western entra

AVAI could feel Damien holding himself carefully beside me, as though he was afraid that one wrong movement would hurt me, and honestly, the man was beginning to irritate me. He had spent the last few hours bleeding, fighting, and tearing through Cassian's men to reach me, yet now he was lying beside me like a stranger who had accidentally wandered into the wrong bed.I lifted my head from his chest and looked at him."Are you seriously planning to spend the entire night lying there like a wounded statue, because I have already told you that I want you beside me, not somewhere across the room feeling sorry for yourself?"His eyes moved towards mine, and one corner of his mouth tightened slightly."You need rest.""I need you, Damien, and those are two completely different things, so stop using my pregnancy as an excuse to avoid having an actual conversation with me."He didn't answer immediately, but his hand moved over my back, drawing me closer without putting pressure on my stomac
