It all came back to her.It all started with that contract four years ago, which ended with her sister, Elizabeth, being driven to her death by Bonnie.Everything rushed back to her relentlessly. She wept without sound. It was so quiet inside the hospital that one could hear a pin drop.Adonis tried to move closer, but before he could even touch her, she shoved him away violently.“Don't touch me!”Claire looked up at him with her eyes bloodshot and filled with hatred. She slapped him across the face.“Why did you save me?“You were the one who caused Elizabeth's death and ruined my life! Why did you bring me back to life, all so I could suffer again?!”She was breaking down. If she could, she would tear Adonis into pieces right then and there.Rather than dodging, Adonis took the slap without so much as a word of protest. When Claire closed her eyes, tears spilled out of her eyes against her will.“Adonis, I never should have bothered entering your life four years ago.”

Gerald assured him, “Nothing, just some small talk. Let me get the doctor for you.”After he left, Claire and Adonis were left in the ward.Adonis gave her a look, then smiled ironically. “As it turns out, having your bones broken really does hurt.“I guess I got what’s coming for me, don’t I? Does that make you feel a little better?”Though he sustained severe injuries from the accident, his life was not in danger thanks to the timely medical intervention. With that said, his condition was not to be taken lightly, and he would have to be bedridden for at least several months.Claire looked at him silently.Soon, the doctor entered to examine Adonis.“There’s nothing to worry about for now, all he needs is time to recover. His family should take care of him during this period.”Upon hearing this, Claire prepared to leave.Adonis suddenly called out after her, “Claire.”He expressed pitifully, as if hoping that would evoke her sympathy. “I got hurt trying to save you. Claire was shocked by the mad look in his eyes.“Adonis, you’re insane!”Adonis let out a roaring laugh that grew louder with every second.Soon, a single tear slid down his cheek, but even then, there was no telling if he was crying out of pain or sheer amusement.Regardless, he held onto Claire with everything he had in him.“If being insane is what it takes to keep you by my side, then so be it!”Then, the bedside monitor began to emit a loud, piercing noise. A puddle of sweat had pooled around Adonis’s forehead, and shortly after, he collapsed.“Adonis?”Soon, a group of doctors and nurses filed in to begin emergency treatment.Claire was ushered out of the ward, where she leaned against the wall, feeling utterly exhausted. After a long time passed, she heard the doctor’s voice. “The patient is fine. He only fainted because he excited his nerves. There is no immediate danger to his life at the moment.”Claire let out a breath of relief. After that, she went to Gerald to

It hurt Gerald to see Adonis in this state, but he looked at him regardless.“Before she left, she asked me to pass on a message to you.“She said that if you ever dared to show up before her again, she would end it all.“You were the reason she tried to take her life the first time. Do you have the heart to do it to her again?”Adonis felt as if he had been punched in the gut when he heard this. His expression became wrenched in a pain greater than ever, and he felt like he was going to break then and there.“Does she truly hate me that much?”To the point that she would threaten to end it all just to keep him away.It was an effective threat. He was afraid to take the risk.Merely remembering the way Claire looked when she was struggling to stay alive in the hospital ward, had terrified him.He would much rather be the one who died than see her like that. He did not want her to die.In the days that followed, he never brought up Claire again. He lived numbly as if he was a
