I took a room at the first hotel I found to spend the night. After printing out my resignation letter, I made a phone call. “I’m accepting your job offer from before. Suddenly, the ruckus fell into silence. The next thing I knew, Vanessa squeezed past everyone and rushed toward me. A ringing slap landed on my face out of nowhere. Aria’s mind went completely blank. The doctor held out yet another document, and he seemed undecided on whether to speak. “This is Mr. Hastings’ report from six months ago. After the surgery, Aria returned home. Several workers were making trips in and out to move things, but even then, not even half of Chester’s things had been moved away.
