All Chapters of Three Can Play Fair.: Chapter 1 - Chapter 5

Kimberly POV“Take them off and lie down.” The doctor said, rubbing both palms together, as a way to spread the creamy substance evenly in his palms. How did I even end up here? If not for the state of hysteria I found myself in, tell me why I would be standing in a room letting a man talk to me like that…Knowing fully well what he meant by ‘take off’. I mean, I should go naked because of some medical examination. You could imagine how that landed. You know, one minute…I had sat in the waiting room longer than I needed to, staring at the wall clock like it owed me an explanation for how my life had turned into this. Married for a year. Untouched for a year. And now here I was, about to let a stranger examine parts of me my own husband hadn't cared to look at in months. The receptionist had called my name twice before I realized she meant me."Room three," she said, not even glancing up from her screen. "Dr. Horace Adams will see you shortly."Dr. Horace. Not Dr. Lisa? That was initial

Kimberly's POVI got home that day feeling lighter than I had in months, like something in me had finally been given permission to hope. It was as if I counted seconds, waiting for evening so I could at least do the needful while waiting for my husband to be back, even if it meant forcing myself on him…while I really hoped for the best.I spent almost an hour deciding what to wear, which felt ridiculous for a marriage that had gone a full year without so much as a lingering touch. But tonight felt different… Because tonight, I had a doctor's words rattling around in my head like a promise I intended to keep.Evening came, and I was already dressed in the sexiest lingerie I'd bought recently … the kind I'd told myself I was saving for a special occasion, though if I was honest, I hadn't been sure there'd ever be one. It's black and delicate, in a way that made me feel like a stranger in my own skin when I looked in the mirror. I turned sideways once, twice, trying to convince myself I

Kimberly POVI pulled myself together because that was the least I could do, and then walked up to the CEO's office. The walk there felt longer than it should have. In every step down that hallway, I rehearsed a version of myself that looked composed, professional, unbothered … a woman who hadn't spent half the morning replaying a stranger's hands on her body. By the time I reached his door, I almost believed I'd pulled it off.I stood outside the office for a while before I finally knocked. My knuckles hovered there longer than they needed to, some part of me hoping he'd already left for a meeting, that this whole thing could be postponed to a day when my nerves weren't already frayed thin.I knocked a second time before he finally replied. "Come in." And that voice was everything.I held the doorknob and pushed the handle down. The door opened, and I walked in right away, almost looking startled for some reason I couldn't wrap my head around. His office was bigger than I expected fo
