EmmaI wake up thirsty and quickly climb out of bed, desperate for some water. As I step out of my room, something catches my eye beneath the couch.I bend down to pick it up, only to spot another one near the coffee table.I stare at the first earring for a moment.A tiny diamond dangling from a delicate silver chain. Definitely not mine. Then I notice a tube of lipstick.I slowly straighten, looking around the apartment.“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”After everything that happened last night, I thought the whole thing had been some bizarre exception.Apparently not. This is a lifestyle.I pick up the lipstick and turn it between my fingers.“How many women have you brought through here, Luca?”“You really want the number?” His voice makes me jump out of my skin and I quickly turn around. Luca is standing in the hallway, casually drinking from a bottle of water, looking far too amused by the situation.“How long have you been standing there?” I snap.“Long enough to hear y

EmmaI stand in front of the mirror, trying to imagine what I would look like as Luca Hayes’s girlfriend.“Ridiculous.” I mutter, shaking my head.People already believe we’re together because of those photographs outside the club. How am I supposed to act around him?“And then he smashed the bottle over his head!” Mia’s excited voice pulls me out of my thoughts. I step out of my room and find her stuffing a chocolate éclair into her mouth while talking on the phone.“Mia, come on. We have to go.”She quickly ends the call and looks at me with a mischievous smile. “Are you sure you don’t want to leave Luca alone?”I purse my lips. “Are you sure you want to make it to your checkup today? Because you’re going to be late.”She gasps, grabs her bag, and rushes toward the door. I follow her, laughing, but barely make it through the doorway before I walk straight into someone.Luca’s tall frame blocks the doorway, and for some reason, my gaze drops to his lips. I immediately wonder what the

Emma I decide to leave Luca alone for hockey practice. I’m still annoyed by his reaction, but I don’t bring it up. It’s our first day as a couple, and he’s already managed to scare off another guy.I spend the afternoon writing a chapter for my latest novel. After taking a shower, I start preparing dinner. Of course, I make enough for Luca too—not because I care about him, but because, as a kind-hearted person, I can’t stand knowing someone is going hungry when I can do something about it.He can afford to order takeout. I’m sure that’s what he does every day. Just as I finish cooking, the apartment door opens and Luca walks in, immediately looking my way.“Where have you been?” He drops his hockey gear on the floor. I don’t answer, pretending to stay busy with what I’m doing. He walks over, stopping close enough that I have to look up at him. Our eyes meet, and his expression makes it clear he’s still waiting for an answer.“I’m asking you something.” “I’ve been busy around the hou

EmmaI move in my sleep, immediately regretting it when a dull ache spreads across my lower stomach. My cramps are coming back, and I squeeze my eyes shut, hoping they will disappear if I stay still. The sound of the front door closing makes me open my eyes.I stare at the ceiling for a moment, trying to remember what happened after I fell asleep last night.Luca had stayed. There hadn’t been anyone watching when he sat beside me and massaged my back and abdomen until the pain finally eased. He could have gone back to his room. Instead, he stayed until I was asleep. I don’t know why that thought bothers me more than it should. Maybe because Luca isn’t supposed to care about me like that. Our relationship is fake, and everything we do together is supposed to have a purpose. Yet last night, there had been no audience and no reason for him to keep pretending.I push the thought away and try to sit up when two knocks sound against my bedroom door. Before I can answer, the door opens.Luc

Emma“Yeah, no. I don’t think you should come with me…” Luca shakes his head as soon as the call ends.“Why not?” I ask. “I’m being invited. Maybe this is our chance to convince them that we really are in a relationship.”Luca looks at me, his expression tense.“This fake relationship… Emma, I thought it would be easier for me. For both of us. But it keeps making things more complicated.”He pauses, running a hand through his hair.“My hockey is at risk. Your scholarship is at risk. None of this is working out the way it was supposed to.”I stare at him, trying to understand what has suddenly changed. “So, you’re saying I shouldn’t go?”“I’m saying you don’t know what you’re walking into.”Before I can respond, Luca grabs his phone and dials another number. He waits for the call to connect.“Hello? Coach Reynolds, can you please come to my apartment?”Half an hour later, I hear voices coming from the hallway. I step closer and immediately recognize Luca’s voice. He’s arguing with Coac
