LYRA'S POVTears fill my eyes for what feels like the millionth time as I reach for the bond between father and me.Nothing.No warmth. No reassurance. No father.I quickly press a hand over my mouth as a sob breaks free, the sound small and broken. I may have lost Father, but if the others heard me crying, then the last of Misthollow's courage would die with him.I sag against the wall behind me but an indignant huff from Nicole in the next cell, had me releasing a relieved sigh. But that relief is quickly obliterated when I hear the sound of chains and bolts being undone in some cells.“Let me g-" The familiar grumpy sound of elder Rowe's voice is cut off by the sharp sound of a slap. But that doesn't stop his protests before he's gagged and marched out.I move closer to the door and try to see the faces of the wolves being rounded up in the dim light. The cell beside me is thrown open and I immediately rush to the wall as I hear Nicole being dragged from the cell. She screams and

LYRA'S POVA painful jolt of heat in my lower belly wakes me. It feels like my entire body is melting and tensing all at once.My claws scrape against the floor as my back arches off the soft bedding I'd been placed on, every muscle in my body burning from the mate bond.My body wanted Ronan, ached for him in a way that made my skin feel like it didn't belong to me, but I wanted to tear him apart.I kick away the mountain of blankets thrown haphazardly over me before sitting up on the cot I'd been placed on.That was another thing about Misthollow's dungeons. They were built to hold unruly teenagers and angry fathers throwing punches during ceremonies or pack games. They were never meant for enemies.Father never intended them to be used that way. There were even jokes throughout the pack that while other dungeons imprisoned criminals, Misthollow's came with cots and warm bread for their occupants. Now hundreds of Misthollow wolves were trapped in their own dungeon. Their Alpha dead a

LYRA'S POV I clench my fist tight as I stride ahead of Viktor, ignoring the blatant stares I get from Blackthorne wolves. What did Misthollow have to offer as allies? How could they reduce everything Father built to nothing while actively occupying our land? The Blackthorne guards at the steps of the dungeons stop their goofing off when they see us approach. They send each other glances as we pass by, probably asking themselves what was wrong with the crazy captive."What are they going to do to me?" I ask Viktor without turning, knowing he's following closely behind."My people are imprisoned in the lower cells, and I'm ripped away from them, isolated from friends and comfort. So you tell me. What would you have me do?"When he continues following without answering, I turn sharply at him, and for the first time I see a reaction on his otherwise stony face. We stare at each other for a few heated moments before he sighs and scrubs his face with his hand."You shouldn't be asking me w

RONAN'S POVI feel Viktor's gaze searing into the side of my face as I watch Lyra leave the tent, a spring in her step. We came to a conclusion that half of the battalion and most of the elders are to leave Misthollow before dawn.Lyra is a quick thinker, and she understands persuasion in a way no inexperienced alpha should."Tell Rafa that he can go now. We no longer need his services." I say to Viktor without looking at him."Because he offered her some advice or because he got into her head?" My head snaps to him and I see him shrug. "What? Everyone saw her pupils blown to the nines and she's enchanted by him right after. Also, you shouldn't dismiss him that way. He followed you here to conquer Misthollow.""He did it because he has nothing to do. Anybody can conquer this tiny land." I reply, irritated."Still."The tent flap opens and a messenger steps inside. He gives a deep bow before handing a parchment over to Viktor, who tears it open almost immediately.I see the messenger c

LYRA'S POVI am having a meeting with Elder Rowe and the four post commanders to decide how we are going to handle perimeter security when a tall, broad warrior approaches us."Commander Ed at your service, Alpha." He gives a curt bow before straightening up."How may I help you, Commander Ed?" I ask."I didn't support your earlier decision about Blackthorne. I understand why you may think it's the best answer, but I don't think you fully understand what you are committing to."Wonderful. A speechy veteran. One of the post commanders goes to speak but I stop him and give Ed my attention."I won't claim that I understand what I'm doing, Commander, but I'm always happy to sacrifi-""Yes, sacrifice." He says it almost like I'm stupid, and I can immediately feel Rue's hackles rise at the intended insult. "You don't have the experience to make sacrifices. Your lack of experience is the problem.""Most people who came into pow
