Weak yet desperate was each blow of Theariza’s hand against the thick iron door of the storage room. “My husband… help me…” she cried weakly. “Alexander… where are you? What is the reason?” Mrs. Alicia furrowed her brow and answered immediately. “Why are you getting mad at me? And besides, I have no idea why she is bleeding! She couldn't possibly get pregnant because of the vitamins I’ve been making her take.” Alexander took a deep breath, as if stopping himself from shouting. “I know that, Ma. But why did this happen? Is it possible that it’s a side effect of that medicine? Is that why she’s bleeding now?” Mrs. Alicia shook her head slightly before replying. “No. That medicine is meant to prevent pregnancy—like a contraceptive. It stops the sperm from surviving in a woman’s body so she won't get pregnant. But severe bleeding? That is not a normal effect.” As the mother and son’s conversation grew serious, Althea gently chimed in. She held Alexander’s arm as if calming him down.

The doctors and nurses rushed into the room. Intense tension suddenly filled the space around Theariza’s bed. “What are her vital signs?” a doctor quickly asked while putting on gloves. “Doctor, she’s having a hard time breathing! Her oxygen is dropping!” Nurse Darryl answered, staring at the monitor. The machine suddenly beeped. The nurse quickly strapped the oxygen mask onto Theariza’s face. “Ma’am Theariza, can you hear me?” the doctor asked loudly yet calmly while gently tapping her cheek. But the woman was barely moving. “Doctor, the oxygen saturation is still dropping!” “Damn it! Prepare emergency medication!” the doctor ordered swiftly.
