NICOLE'S POV The headline stared back at me from my phone screen, mocking me with its bold black letters."THE SHADOW BROKER STRIKES AGAIN: MARCHETTI INDUSTRIES FALLS."My hands were shaking. My vision blurred as the words swam together and separated and swam again, but the meaning stayed the same. The Shadow Broker. The anonymous business mogul who had been haunting the corporate world for ten years. No face. No name. No identity. Just a legend whispered in boardrooms and feared in every executive suite across the city.He took companies when they hit rock bottom. He bought their stock for pennies. He rebranded them, made them successful, and made a lot of profit off them. And now he had taken mine.Marchetti Industries. My grandfather built this industry from scratch and made it one of the most successful in the city. My father took over the empire and took it to a different level. As the only daughter and heir, it was my job to continue that legacy. I worked so hard to prove mys

ADRIAN'S POVThree days ago.My assistant, Marcus, stood in front of my desk with a folder in his hands. "Sir, the investigation report of Nicole Marchetti just came in.”After witnessing the humiliation of Nicole Marchetti at my niece's engagement, I decided to investigate the case myself. So I got some professionals to do it. They were my most trusted private investigator agency. I stopped typing. "What did they find?” He opened the folder."Elliot Vane and Nicole Marchetti were in a relationship for six years, way before she became the CEO. According to the report, Nicole helped him build his law firm with her money. She introduced him to influential clients. She made him the legal advisor of Marchetti Industries when she became CEO three years ago."I leaned back in my chair."Six years.""Yes, sir.""And no one knew?""They kept it a secret. According to what she told the public defender, Elliot didn't want people to think he used her to climb the social ladder. Nicole agreed

ADRIAN'S POVThere was something about her.I couldn't place it at first. The way she moved was like water finding its path through stone. The way her body swayed to the music like she had all the time in the world and nothing left to lose. I had been coming to this place for years. It was the same routine. The masked women, the darkened rooms, and silent transactions. It was an entertainment and distraction. Nothing more. But tonight, the woman dancing in front of me was different. She made my body react in a way none of the other women ever did. She was new because I've never seen her. The shape of her body, the curve of her waist, and the way her silver dress caught the dim red light and threw it back like a challenge.I sat still like I always do. I never touched the women. They always tried to go further with me, but I always sent them away before midnight. The owner always gets frustrated and asks why I never spend the night with any of the women. I just told him that they

NICOLE'S POV The car stopped inside a mansion with stone walls and Iron gates. Security cameras watching every angle. It was as big as my father's mansion except I haven't lived in it since he died. It was too big and lonely. I sat in the passenger seat, my arms crossed, my jaw tight, my eyes fixed on the dashboard. The engine was still running. The heat was still on. And I was not getting out. Adrian walked around the car and opened my door. "Get out." He ordered. "No." My voice was firm and my chin was up. He stared at me. "Nicole…I don't have time for your childish behaviour.” "I'm not going inside.” I looked at him. "My job was at the hotel. Not your house. I'm not going in." He leaned down, his face inches from mine. "Your job," he said slowly, "was to spend the night with me. I paid triple for it. So you will get out of this car and do what you were paid to do.” “I never agreed to that.” I looked away. “I'm not going in.” He straightened up. His jaw w

NICOLE'S POVI sat in the passenger seat of Adrian's car, my arms crossed so tight over my chest that my shoulders ached. My jaw was clenched so hard I could hear my teeth grinding. The seatbelt cut across the bear hoodie, a pink, fuzzy, ridiculous thing with ears on the hood and a stupid little tail on the back. The sleeves ended two inches above my wrists. The pants hugged my thighs like a second skin. I looked like a child in it. Adrian dragged me out of the house in it, claiming it was the only thing he had for me to wear. But it was humiliating. I looked like a child in it. The car hummed beneath me. And I was burning alive in a pink bear suit."Where are we going?" I demanded.Adrian didn't answer. He kept his eyes on the road. His hands were steady on the wheel. His profile was sharp and unreadable, like it had been carved from stone.I turned to look at him. "You can't just drag me out of the house without telling me where we're going! I demand an answer right now!” He gl
