“Anyway, he’s nothing but dead weight now. He consumes our supplies and slows everyone down. It’ll take at least two weeks to reach Sydney Base from here, and anything could happen along the way. Who has time to look after him?”“My brother needs a better environment to recover after receiving the Superpower Core. Sophie told us to take good care of him during the journey. There’s only so much room in the car. We can’t waste space carrying someone who’s practically a corpse.”“That makes sense, but I’m worried Michael won’t agree to this.”“Don’t worry, Doctor. Mum will handle Dad. Besides, by agreeing to the transplant, he already accepted that this useless piece of trash might die. He knows what matters more: losing one person or losing the entire family. Without my brother, none of us will survive the journey to Sydney Base. When the next zombie horde attacks the base, we’ll all be killed!”“Alright, then. I’ll stop giving him his medication.”“Good. There’s no point wasting medici

An awkward silence stretched between them. Jack didn’t say a word, and just as Liam was about to speak again, the call ended.“Ahh…”Liam sighed, gathered his courage, and dialled again. There was no shame in begging an ex to take him back.It wasn’t until the third attempt that Jack finally answered. Even then, he remained silent.Liam took a quiet breath and awkwardly broke the silence.“Uh… long time no see.”It was a cliché opening line, but saying it made him strangely happy.“Do you need something?”Jack’s voice was ice cold. It was the typical tone of an ex who wanted nothing to do with you.“…”Bloody hell, straight to the point.Liam hesitated. After their last unpleasant encounter, there wasn’t much room for small talk between them. He decided to get straight to it.“Yeah. I want to come and see you.”Bold and blunt. His cheeks burned so hot he could have fried an egg on them.Jack clenched his jaw.“What is this? Did you lose a game of truth or dare?”“No, I’m serious.”Lia

Jack’s expression turned cold again.Had Liam come all this way not to reconcile with him, but simply to use him as a tool?Did he think he could get away with acting so recklessly just because Jack would always indulge him?“You’re still grieving your mum. A change of scenery might help. Take some time to relax and adjust. Don’t worry about the money. Just make yourself comfortable here.”Jack took several deep breaths, trying to suppress his wandering thoughts. He spoke stiffly, attempting to comfort Liam before adding,“My place isn’t available for you to stay at right now.”Liam stiffened, his expression freezing.Just as he was about to ask what Jack meant, the other man’s phone suddenly buzzed.Jack pulled it out, glanced at the screen, and frowned. Turning to Liam, who was visibly disappointed, he said,“I have something urgent to deal with. Get some rest first.”With that, he answered the call and walked away.“Ugh…”Liam slumped onto the sofa in frustration. With less than tw

Liam was in a good mood as he took a taxi back to the hotel. The receptionist gave him a knowing smile and told him that Jack had already brought his luggage back to the room. After thanking her, Liam took the lift upstairs, thinking about how he would ask Jack for more money. The door to the room was open, and Jack was on the phone. Not wanting to interrupt him, Liam grabbed some clean clothes and went straight to the bathroom. He felt disgusting after a long day.Halfway through his shower, Jack knocked on the bathroom door.“Have you eaten yet?”Liam was idly playing with the bubbles in the bathtub when he answered.“Nope. I feel like eating something spicy today. Thanks, Brother Jack.”He needed to borrow money, so he had to keep his ex happy. Jack had always been rather protective of him, almost like a father spoiling his child, and Liam knew how to take advantage of that.Jack walked away.By the time Liam finished washing up, room service had arrived. The table was covered with

Jack held Liam’s gaze for a long moment before suddenly smiling. He raised a hand and gently caressed the back of Liam’s neck.“I was worried you’d think I was getting too handsy so soon after we got back together. Besides, I can’t stay tonight.”“Not at all. I’m clearly the one trying to take advantage of you, Jack.”Liam finished with a playful smile and leaned forward to bite Jack’s lip lightly. His voice trembled a little as he spoke.“It’s fine if you can’t stay. But at least give me something first… Jack, I’ve missed you so much.”Two lifetimes’ worth of pain couldn’t be soothed by a few words or a single hug.Noticing Liam’s uneasiness, Jack kissed his cheek and asked, “Want a drink?”Liam chuckled softly.“No need. Earlier, I wanted to work up the courage with alcohol before asking you for money, but I don’t need to anymore. Even without it, I’ll still lose my head around you.”Although their long separation had made things awkward at first, they were gradually falling back in
