He Chose His Love, I Chose My Career
"Mr. Dawson, about that farmhouse construction project in Hattensburg… I've decided that I'm willing to go there."
Gary Dawson, on the other end of the line, sounds fairly surprised. "I've been asking you to go there for ages, yet you refused every time because you said you wanted to be with your boyfriend, Timothy. Why the sudden change of mind?"
Madeline Carlton lowers her reddened eyes and pretends to chuckle nonchalantly. "I guess I hit one too many walls and just decided to come to my senses afterward."
Hearing this, Gary sighs and says sternly, "This is a highly classified mission. You will be assuming a whole new identity when you start working on this project. Before the mission ends, you will not be allowed to have any contact with the rest of the world.
"Madeline, are you sure that you've thought things through?"
"Yes. I just want to escape this place as soon as I can."
There is a long silence on the phone. However, Gary answers right after the pause. "Alright. I'll send the classified contract to you in a while. It should take about a month for the paperwork to be finalized. Use that opportunity to say goodbye to your friends and family."
The call disconnects. An email pops up in Madeline's inbox. Right after reading through the classified contract, she signed her name with a flourish and submitted the file with a click.
At the same time, Bloomberg Group's new product launch plays on the television. Timothy Bloomberg, wearing a tailored white suit, slowly leads Lacey Houston up the catwalk stage.

Good Riddance, Stepbrother
At our Thanksgiving family dinner, my stepbrother brought his beautiful girlfriend to meet the family for the first time.
She held up her wine glass and flashed me a malicious smirk. “I heard you had a first love you can’t forget, Summer.”
I kept my head low and focused on my food, unsure how to respond.
After all, my first love… was her boyfriend.
When I was seventeen, my stepbrother Ethan Cole tricked me into crossing the line we should never have crossed, while our parents were blissfully unaware.
Even right now, under the table, his foot was rubbing mine sensually. He did not bother holding back.
On the table, he held his girlfriend’s hand tenderly as he mocked me with a smirk, “You’re twenty-seven, sis. Your shelf life is running out, and you’re such a plain Jane. Who would ever want you?”
I stood up abruptly and looked at him, my tone calm and resolute.
“I’m married, Ethan.”

No to Marriage? Goodbye, Then
I chase after Dean Wagner for five years while Graham Ashford chases after me for seven.
When Dean marries Emily Caldwell, I finally say yes to being Graham's girlfriend.
Graham is over the moon. He treats me like I'm everything to him, like he'd do whatever it takes just to make me happy.
But Graham doesn't believe in marriage.
Even when our daughter turns four, he still hasn't married me. He won't even let her call him "Dad".
One night, I overhear him joking around with his buddies.
"Your daughter's already four. You still aren't bringing your wife and kid home to meet your parents?"
Graham taps his knuckles on the table and laughs. "You know why I got with Nora and had a kid with her. I just want to make Emily jealous.
"Nora's easy to fool. She won't ever leave me, even if I never bring her or the kid home."
He thinks he has me all figured out, but he doesn't.
I turn and leave without a word, then plan to leave him for good.
A man like that doesn't deserve my love. And he sure as well doesn't deserve to be my daughter's father.

She Always Comes First
Herbert Fischer lets his precious childhood sweetheart dump scalding stew all over me as everyone watches.
Worse, he tells me to apologize, all because I said one harsh sentence to her.
Tears stream down my face as I ask him, "Is my life worth less than a hair on her head?"
He snorts. "Stop overthinking. It's just hot stew—you won't die from a few burns."

I'll Leave if You Don't Want Me
My mother is gravely ill and needs a million dollars for surgery. I run all over the city, desperately trying to borrow the money.
Just when I'm at my breaking point, my childhood friend shows up, holding a check for one million dollars.
His condition? He wants to marry me.
Everyone's waiting for me to say yes, but I calmly refuse.
Because in my last life, even after I married him, my mother still died. Her surgery failed.
Later, I accidentally overhear a conversation between him and a doctor.
"Christopher, you sabotaged the surgery just to transplant Alice's mom's kidney into Jennifer? Was it worth it? If Alice finds out, you’re done."
"I just want Jennifer to live. And honestly, marrying someone like Alice? My life is already over."
That's when I realize our entire marriage was nothing but a carefully woven lie. He did it all for the woman he truly loved.

Rebirth: Giving Them My Blessings
I get picked up by the cops in the middle of the night for street vending. While questioning me, they pull up my file.
One officer eyes me suspiciously through my mask and asks, "What's a Clairefield University graduate like you doing selling stuff on the street at midnight?"
I freeze and lean over to look at the file. The ID number matches mine, but the photo has been replaced with one of Madison Bass.
That's when it hits me—20 years ago, I was the one who got accepted to Clairefield University!
Dazed and numb, I stumble home only to hear my husband, Joseph Gunther, speaking on the phone. "Madison, don't worry. I won't let Lucy interfere with your life. Just go abroad in peace."
It's him! Joseph helped Madison steal my identity and my future.
My stomach twists. I turn to confront him, to expose the truth. But before I can, he strangles me to death with a belt.
"I'm sorry, Lucy. You can't ruin Madison's future…"
When I open my eyes again, I'm back in the classroom. Our homeroom teacher is handing out university application forms.
This time, I'm taking my life back.

If I Could Unlove You
Whenever Rachel Cooper loses it, I know I'm about to get divorced again.
I close my eyes. "We are divorcing for the ninth time."
Marcus Miller massages his temples and says regretfully, "Vivian, Barry died all of a sudden, leaving his wife and her unborn baby behind. I can't ignore them. Relax. Once the baby's born, we'll remarry. We won't separate ever again!"
I remain silent. I already heard this promise eight times before.
Barry Miller's sudden death is the reason for Rachel's breakdown. It also caused Marcus and me to divorce for the first time.
Back then, Rachel was already pregnant, prompting Marcus to divorce me. He will remarry me once he has comforted her.
Over the past nine months, we have married and divorced eight times.
Everyone mocks me by calling me the Eight-Ring Wonder. I also find it ridiculous.
After I accept the divorce certificate, one of the court staff secretly asks me, "When are you getting married again?"
I answer calmly, "There's no next time."

Regretting That a Wish Came True
While accompanying my husband, Austin Lockhart, to his class reunion, we run into his true love, Leticia Gomez.
After the gathering, Austin learns that Leticia's been having a tough time. He corners her against a wall and says, "How much do you still owe? Be with me, and I'll give you a hundred grand a month. Is that enough?"
I stand quietly at the street corner, capturing their touching reunion on camera.
Then, I send the photos to my lawyer. I also forward them to Austin with a simple message. "Since you two are so in love, why not go ahead and marry her?"

Countdown to Cancer: May Your Guilt Kill You
After I am diagnosed with stomach cancer, I ask for some money to buy medicine. I don't want to be in excruciating pain when I die.
My three elder brothers rush into the ICU.
Andy Lewis—my eldest brother—slaps me hard across my face. He scolds me for ruining his beloved younger sister, Summer Lewis' coming-of-age party.
My second brother, Sherman Lewis, calls me a liar. He accuses me of pretending to be sick to swindle money from them.
Jimmy Lewis, who is my third brother, calls me useless. He tells me that I deserve to die.
My parents, Kenneth Lewis and Autumn Farrow, don't believe that I'm sick. They pin me with looks of contempt and ridicule.
"You still haven't stopped that lying habit of yours even though you're all grown up. You even learned how to blackmail us with your death.
"If you want to die, do it sooner. It'll spare us from being disgusted when we're forced to look at you day in and day out."
I end up dying on the first day of the New Year. Before I breathe my last breath, I send a message to the family group chat. My entire family goes crazy after reading it.

Wasted Time, Wasted Love
My stepson pushes me down from the second floor, all because I accidentally break a bowl.
He stands over me, looking down with a cold, emotionless gaze. "You're just a stand-in my grandfather forced on us. Don't even think about replacing my mother!"
I stare up at the boy I've raised for eight years, and his indifference cuts deeper than any wound.
Blood slowly trickles down from my forehead.
Fighting through the pain, I dial a number. "Whatever debt I owed has been paid. It's time for me to leave."
Coincidentally, I already have the divorce agreement that his father has signed.
