Why Did Avi Leave Pentatonix

Avi Kaplan decided to leave Pentatonix in May 2017 in pursuit of a solo career. Though it was a hard decision for him, he felt the fast-paced lifestyle of the band was too overwhelming and in conflict with his personal aspirations and need for solitude.

He's a bit of an old soul and wanted to explore his love for folk and roots music more deeply. He now performs under the name 'Avriel & the Sequoias' and is churning out some amazing tracks!

Being the baritone powerhouse of Pentatonix and all, Avi Kaplan was compelled to sit out a little early in 2017, a big surprise for people in general about life.

As Avi explained the reason for the sea change, on one hand, participating in the band was a thrilling venture but it was balanced with having to constantly chase the success and busy touring schedule that it had brought him.These brutal schedules ultimately wore him down in body and mind.

Staying true to his roots and his heart, Avi maintained an affection for folk music all along. It was a challenge therefrom that he chose to find comfort and fully embrace the music he was born into, taking on the moniker 'Avriel & the Sequoias'.

In learning to perform in the vein of folk and in the location of roots since he left Pentatonix, Avi has given rein to the great vocal power he has always been known for in a new type of music.

Perhaps Avi's departure has punctuated the notion that while fame and success are both attractive, personal well-being and artistic satisfaction cannot be measured in any monetary unit.
