Honestly, I bounce between FanFiction.net and Quotev for this. FF.net's app is clunky, but the sheer amount of classic fandom one-shots is massive, especially for older shows and books. The search is basic, but if you know the fandom you want, you can filter by length and just scroll. It feels like digging in an attic sometimes.
Quotev has a cozier, community quiz-and-story vibe that I like for lighter stuff. The interface is less intimidating than AO3 for new readers. You'll find a lot of fluffy, domestic scenario one-shots there that hit the spot when you need something sweet and undemanding. It's not where I'd go for heavy angst or experimental prose, but for a reliable, quick read, it's solid.

Don't sleep on SpaceBattles and Sufficient Velocity forums. They're known for long crossovers, but the Creative Writing sections have dedicated threads for snippets and short ideas. The feedback loop is immediate because it's a forum; you get comments right under the post. The tone leans more towards speculative 'what-ifs' and can be less ship-focused, which is a nice change. Found a brilliant one-shot about the logistics of Starfleet's replicator maintenance there once.

Let's be real, the real move is still Archive of Our Own. The tagging system is unparalleled for finding exactly what you want, whether it's that specific ship in a particular setting or a weirdly specific trope. I've spent hours on other sites getting lost in poorly tagged messes. Here, you filter for 'One Shot' and 'Complete' and boom, you're in business. The quality can be wildly inconsistent, but the sheer volume and organization make it worth it. Sometimes you just want a quick, complete story without commitment, and AO3's structure is built for that.
Tumblr is a weirdly good secondary source if you know where to look. A lot of writers will post drabbles and short fics directly on their blogs. The discovery is horrible, though. You have to follow the right people and hope they reblog other writers you'll like. It's more of a bonus feed than a primary platform, but I've found some incredible, voicey little stories there that never made it to the bigger archives.

"Are you sure, Jake? I can be a very bad girl," I purred sexily, brushing my hands lightly over his pants. He stiffened and grabbed my hands.
"Bad girls get punished," He snarled.
"Would you like to punish me then?"

AO3 is pretty much the default for oneshots in my opinion. The tag system makes searching for specific ships or tropes effortless, and the quality tends to be higher on average. You can filter by word count to get precisely the short, self-contained stories you're after. I've stumbled upon some real gems there that I'd never find on more chaotic sites.
That said, don't sleep on Tumblr. It's a mess to navigate, but a lot of writers post their oneshot drabbles and ficlets directly there, often with great accompanying moodboards or art. Following specific tags or writers is the key. FF.net feels a bit outdated for this purpose, as the search function isn't geared towards short-form content the same way.
Navigating the oneshot mania scene can feel like hunting for shiny Pokémon—there's a thrill in the chase. I've been around the block on FFN and AO3 for years, but for this specific itch, AO3 is my absolute HQ. The tag system is a game-changer; you can filter for 'Oneshot,' 'Complete,' and then drill down by fandom, pairing, and even specific tropes like 'fluff' or 'angst.' The collections and challenges people create are pure gold for finding themed oneshot dumps. Sometimes I just search 'Oneshot Mania' and sort by kudos to see what's bubbling up.
That said, don't sleep on Tumblr. It's chaotic, yeah, but writers often post their shorter works there first as a 'drabble' or a 'ficlet' before compiling them on AO3. Following specific writers' blogs or tracking tags like '#oneshot' plus your fandom can lead to some real-time, raw finds. Wattpad... I'm less convinced for oneshots. The algorithm pushes longer serials, and the tagging isn't as precise, so gems get buried under multi-chapter epics. My personal move is to bookmark favorite writers on AO3 and check their 'works' page; many have a dedicated oneshot series or post short-form stuff regularly. The real trick is using AO3's bookmarklet to save fics for offline reading when you've built up a nice little hoard.
