LOL my strategy is to wait for the movie trailer. Then I panic-read the book before the adaptation comes out. The impending deadline is the only thing that works for me. Did it with 'Dune', did it with 'The Power of the Dog'. Maybe not the purest love of literature, but hey, it gets the pages turning.

Look at prize winners that also became best sellers. Books like 'The Overstory' or 'The Sympathizer' offer incredible depth and artistry, which can be rewarding if you're ready for a more immersive challenge. Sometimes returning to reading is about seeking substance you can't get from other media. The satisfaction of grappling with a complex, beautiful book can reignite a passion for the form itself, not just the story. It's a different, deeper kind of engagement.

Go for a best-selling mystery series, like Louise Penny's Gamache books or Robert Galbraith's Cormoran Strike series. The familiarity of returning characters in each book reduces the initial effort of learning a new world. You just slip back into a known community. The mystery plot provides the engine to keep you going. And because they're series, if the first one works, you've got a ready-made reading list for months.

Look for authors who have a huge backlist of best sellers. Once you like one, you've got a reliable source for your next several books. Lee Child, Stephen King, Agatha Christie, Terry Pratchett. That safety net eliminates the 'what do I read next?' paralysis that can kill momentum. Knowing you can just grab another book by the same author and likely enjoy it is a huge relief when rebuilding a habit.

Finally, give yourself grace. If a best seller isn't working, drop it. Life's too short. The right book at the wrong time is the wrong book. The goal is to rekindle joy, not to check off a culturally approved list. Keep sampling until something clicks. The act of searching—reading blurbs, first pages, reviews—is itself a form of re-engagement with the world of books. You'll find your way back.

His Billion-Dollar Regret: The Forgotten Wife Returns
Evve

9.7K
She was his forgotten wife. He was her biggest mistake. Four years later, she returns — richer, colder, and carrying his secret.
For three years, Yessica did everything right. She made his breakfast, celebrated their anniversaries alone, and loved a man who barely knew her name. When she nearly bled to death during a pregnancy complication — calling Lewis four times while he finished a business meeting — she finally understood: she was never a wife. She was a convenience.
So she left. With nothing but the baby growing inside her and a borrowed £50,000, she built Bellamy Holdings into a £500 million empire. She became the woman no one could ignore.
Now she's back. And so is Lewis Silverthorn — shattered, desperate, and staring at a four-year-old daughter with his exact gray eyes.
He wants forgiveness. He wants his family. But Yessica built her walls from the rubble of his neglect, and a charming rival named Rafferty Montague is offering her everything Lewis never could.
Worse — someone has been pulling strings all along. A betrayal runs deeper than either of them imagined, and this time, it could cost them everything.
Can a man undo three years of silence with a lifetime of trying? Or is some love too broken to survive?

I married Alex Marwood because our families said it was right.
He never chose me. Not once.
One lie from my stepsister ruined everything. I signed the divorce papers with a secret in my belly. I left, learned how to breathe again, and built a quiet life with two little cute humans who call me “Mom.”
Years later, fate walks through the lobby of my hotel in a tailored suit and the same storm-blue eyes my son wears. Alex stops. Looks at my twins. Looks at me.
“I’m sorry,” he says.
But where do I start? With the nights I cried alone? With the accident nobody will talk about? With the powerful people who would rather bury the truth than let me be happy?
Alex wants a second chance. I want peace. But when old enemies start circling and “accidents” stop being accidents, I realize love isn’t just flowers and apologies.
If he wants us back, he’ll have to fight for us.
She loved him when he had nothing to lose.
He discarded her when he had everything to protect.

Some men lose love.
Others lose power.

I thought I had everything love, a husband I trusted, and a life I had dreamed of.
But one night, Sam Samuels, the man I gave my heart to, handed me a divorce. Not because he stopped loving me, but because the world, his family, and even my own, believed I was never enough.
As I watch the people around me scheme and manipulate, I realize I’ve been trapped—not just by a title or a marriage, but by expectations I never asked for. The white moonlight from Sam’s past returns, and his family’s pressure grows heavier. Every step I take is watched, every choice questioned.
I am Anna Vale, the woman who suffers in silence, who bends to survive, yet secretly dreams of freedom. But when the man who left me suddenly wants me back, I face a choice: forgive a love that abandoned me, or reclaim my life and finally break free from the chains of family, wealth, and heartache.
A story of heartbreak, betrayal, and slow-burning love.
Will Anna let Sam back in, or will she finally choose herself?

“I don’t remember losing you.”His fingers tighten around mine, warm, familiar, like they’ve always belonged there.
But I remember everything.
The silence.
The distance.
The night I found him in bed with someone I trusted more than him.
So I pull my hand away.
“You already did,” I say quietly.
*******************************
Elena Hart spent three years married to billionaire Alexander Cross, three years of cold indifference, quiet humiliation, and a love that only existed on paper until the night it shattered completely, she walked away without looking back.
Divorce papers signed and her freedom within reach, but two weeks later, everything changed.
An accident leaves Alexander with no memory of the last five years, no memory of their broken marriage, no memory of the divorce, no memory of the woman he became.
To him, Elena is still his wife.
And somehow… the only person he wants.
Pulled back into the Cross empire under a carefully constructed arrangement, Elena agrees to stay temporarily for her sister’s safety, for her own future, and for a deal she cannot afford to refuse.
But the man waiting for her is not the one she left behind, this Alexander is attentive, gentle and devastatingly aware of her in ways he never was before, he remembers how she takes her coffee.
Not the nights she cried alone.
And the more he gets closer…
The more dangerous it becomes, because Elena knows the truth:
This version of him isn’t real and when his memory returns, the man who broke her will come back with it.
But what she doesn’t know—
Is that the memory loss was never real to begin with.
And this time, the man she’s learning to trust again…
Might be the one rewriting everything.
Choose a book with an absolutely killer opening line or first chapter. Something that throws you into the deep end immediately. That initial hook is everything when your attention span is fragile. 'The Gunslinger' ('The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.') or 'Neuromancer' ('The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.')
I remember falling out of reading for a while because life got too busy, but 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho brought me back. It’s short, philosophical, and feels like a warm hug. The story follows a shepherd boy chasing his dreams, and it’s so easy to get lost in. Another great one is 'Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine' by Gail Honeyman. It’s funny, heartfelt, and about finding connection in the weirdest places. If you want something light but gripping, 'The Martian' by Andy Weir is perfect—it’s sci-fi but reads like a thriller with a sarcastic protagonist who makes you laugh while stranded on Mars. These books aren’t dense, and they remind you why stories matter.
I used to think reading was just a hobby until I hit a rough patch at work and needed an escape. Picking up 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho was a game-changer. The simplicity of the story and the profound messages made me forget my stress for a while. Books like this create a mental space where you can detach from reality and immerse yourself in another world. Even short reads, like 'The Little Prince', can offer that much-needed break. The act of focusing on a narrative forces your mind to slow down, which is incredibly therapeutic. I now keep a book by my bedside for stressful days, and it works like a charm.
Lighthearted books, especially those with humor or uplifting themes, are my go-to. They don’t just distract; they rewire your mood. It’s like having a friend who tells you stories to calm you down.
