For a blend of humor and supernatural drama, some great Funko Pop picks would be Buffy herself holding Mr. Pointy for that iconic slayer drama, or a dual-pack with Spike and Drusilla to capture their chaotic, darkly funny dynamic. If you enjoy that particular mix of light and dark in paranormal stories, I recently read 'FREAKY AFTER DARK : Paranormal collection', a set of short stories where the comedy often comes from characters trying to navigate utterly bizarre hauntings and magical mishaps while genuine stakes and emotional moments still land.
Skip the regular Pops, hunt down the 'Rock Candy' or 'Vynl' style figures if they exist. Sometimes the more stylized interpretations capture the feel of the characters' humor and drama better than the literal big-headed renditions. The exaggeration in those lines can mirror the show's own tonal exaggerations.
Wesley's early Watcher Pop, with his stuffy British outfit and clipboard. He's a joke, a pompous fool constantly humiliated. But if you know his full arc, across 'Buffy' and 'Angel', that figure becomes tragic. It's a testament to how the show could plant a purely comedic character and let drama grow from him over years.
Lurking here because I just started season 2. All these Pop references are spoilers, but I'm too curious to leave! The Mayor with spiders sounds unhinged in the best way.
Drusilla, with her kooky, psychic-vampire vibe. She's dramatic and terrifying, speaking in prophecies and nonsense. But a lot of her lines are also unintentionally (or intentionally?) hilarious in their bizarre delivery. A Pop of her cradling a doll would look creepy, but would also evoke her uniquely off-kilter humor.

Filled with exciting action and thrills, EMERGENCE is a story that will keep you turning pages right up to the end!
When I was seven years old, my younger brother went into anaphylactic shock after sneaking a handful of peanuts.
Outside the emergency room, my mother slammed my head against the wall over and over, her face twisted with rage.
"If you had been watching him like you were supposed to be, this never would have happened! You should be the one with a ruptured stomach, not him!"
After that, whenever my brother so much as caught a cold, my mother forced me to eat spoiled leftovers as punishment.
I once prepared an elaborate feast. She flipped the entire table and made me crawl on the floor to lick it clean.
When I said I wanted to study culinary arts, she poured hot oil over my hands.
My father wanted to send me to vocational school to learn a trade, but my mother clutched my brother to her chest and wailed.
"She destroyed her brother's health! She owes him a lifetime of service!"
When I was fifteen, my brother's gluttony cost my father an important business deal. I took the blame without even being asked, and the furious client forced me to drink more than half a gallon of hard liquor.
By the time I was sent home with a bleeding stomach, my father had already scolded my brother. My mother took out her anger on me instead, slapping me so hard my ears rang and my vision went dark at the edges.
"You useless thing! You should’ve choked to death at that table! I get sick just looking at you!"
I coughed up black blood. From my pocket, I pulled out a piece of sour candy that had gone soft and sticky.
It was the only treat my mother had ever given me with a smile, back before my brother's allergic reaction.
I put the candy in my mouth and swallowed it down with the taste of stomach acid. The candy was so sour it made my throat burn.
Whatever came next, I just hoped I would not have to be my family’s garbage disposal again.
Tara's Pop is essential for the late-series dynamic. Her gentle, grounding influence on Willow and the group provided stability during very dark times. She represented a different kind of strength and belonging.
A Scooby Gang display that includes Tara acknowledges the family's growth and the importance of quiet, nurturing love within the chaos. Her absence in later displays always feels like an emotional omission to me.
The 'Superstar' Jonathan pop infecting other boxes is a hilarious concept. Imagine a Buffy pop, but with Jonathan's face on the poster behind her in the box art. That meta evolution of Jonathan taking over the narrative would be a fantastic, fourth-wall-breaking collectible. It's a shame Funko doesn't get that weird with it sometimes.
I’d argue some seasons are better represented than others. Season six's 'Dark Willow' Pop is maybe the most direct representation of an arc—the sweet witch gone completely off the rails, with the black hair and veins. But where’s the representation for the daily grind depression Buffy faced that season? A Pop of her in her Doublemeat Palace uniform would have been painfully accurate. The Trio got a Pop, which is funny because they were such a pathetic villain group, but it does capture the season's shift to very human, petty evil.
On the flip side, season seven is kinda just 'Buffy with the Scythe'. It works for the final battle iconography, but it doesn't capture the whole 'Potentials and worn-down general' feeling as well.
What I appreciate is that they don't just do the wins. The 'Innocence' Angel with the ring? That's him at his lowest, having just lost his soul. It depicts the devastating aftermath of a battle (with Jenny Calendar, emotionally) that Buffy lost before it even began. Heavy stuff for a vinyl figure.
You know, I never really noticed any. I just buy them because I like the characters. Are people really analyzing the bases that closely? They're just little lumps of plastic to make the figure stand up, as far as I can tell.
