Okay, so I’ve been knee-deep in these for months, and the themes really depend on which side of the crossover is the host. If 'Demon Slayer' characters land in a modern setting, it’s almost always a fish-out-of-water comedy-drama—Tanjiro trying to use a smartphone, Zenitsu freaking out about cars. The plot becomes about hiding their demon-slaying and adjusting, which is fun for a bit. If demons invade another fantasy world, it instantly becomes a survival horror thing. Think 'Attack on Titan' characters realizing Titans are nothing next to Upper Moons.
The most satisfying ones I’ve found actually flip the premise. Instead of just dropping characters in, they ask: what if the demon slayer corps existed in this other world’s history? I read a fantastic 'Fullmetal Alchemist' crossover that treated Blood Demon Arts as a forbidden branch of alchemy, with Muzan as a homunculus. That kind of deep lore integration beats a simple character swap any day. It’s rare, though. Most are just fight scenes strung together with a thin premise.
Honestly? A lot of it is just power fantasy. Someone from another series gets a Demon Slayer mark or a Hashira trains them, and they suddenly start cutting down the local big bads. It gets repetitive. I’ve seen the 'character gets infected with demon blood and struggles with corruption' arc done to death, too.
The better writers skip the obvious and mine the smaller details. I remember one crossover with 'To Your Eternity' that used the Demon Slayer corps’ mortality—characters who know they’ll die young—as a contrast to Fushi’s immortality. That hurt in a good way. Most just want to see Tanjiro befriend Deku or something. Not that I’m complaining… much. I still click on them.
The crossover tropes I keep running into tend to follow the same few beats, honestly. Most common is the 'breathing styles get imported' setup—you'll have a 'Demon Slayer' character showing up in another universe and their Water Breathing or Flame Breathing is suddenly this revolutionary combat system. It's a straightforward way to create instant conflict and power dynamics. The 'Muzan's influence spreads' plot is another big one, where the demon curse bleeds into another world, forcing characters from that series to deal with the demon threat and maybe even develop their own Nichirin blades.
What gets me is how often the crossovers stick to action-heavy shōnen pairings, like 'Jujutsu Kaisen' or 'My Hero Academia'. The tone matches, I guess, but I'd love to see more weird genre mash-ups. A slower, atmospheric crossover with 'The Ancient Magus' Bride' or something, exploring demon biology as a form of cursed magic, would be so much more interesting than another tournament arc with Hashira. The plots can feel a bit paint-by-numbers after a while.

Lysan's plan is to keep it that way by staying completely out of it. Fail his combat exams, spend whatever borrowed time he has left, living a quiet life, where nothing requires him to be a hero.
The man who will become the Demon King, the most feared monster in history is still young and beautiful, with pale grey eyes that find Lysan across every crowded room like he is the only person worth seeing.

A normal girl just as usual working every day. This changed when she met a demon. She made a contract with the demon to help her. She just want to use her demon, but she find that she can't help fall in love with the Demon
It strikes me how often these two get stuck in some variation of the 'forbidden love' scenario, but with a twist specific to their personalities. Since Obanai's backstory involves that snake cult and Mitsuri's strength is treated as abnormal, a lot of fics explore them dealing with societal or internalized shame together. One plot I've seen a few times involves Mitsuri's parents or other Hashira disapproving of the match, framing it as him being 'unworthy' due to his past or her being 'too good' for him, which forces Obanai to confront his own self-loathing.
Another common thread is the 'what if' scenario where Mitsuri gets injured or captured, and Obanai has to wrestle with his protective instincts versus the rules of the Demon Slayer Corps. Those stories often highlight his cold exterior cracking under the pressure of potentially losing her. Less frequently, but more interestingly, I've stumbled upon fics where Mitsuri is the one grappling with duty over love, questioning if her sunny disposition is a mask hiding deeper conflict, especially regarding her perceived need to be 'likeable' versus her own desires.
Honestly, a lot of it can feel repetitive, but the good ones really dig into how their love languages clash and eventually mesh—his silent watchfulness versus her overflowing affection.
Let's talk about the weird and wonderful mashups floating around. I see 'Kimetsu no Yaiba' crossing over with 'My Hero Academia' constantly—something about the Quirk system grafting onto Breathing Styles sparks writers' imaginations, I guess. Tanjiro's pure-heartedness bouncing off Midoriya's anxious heroism makes for a predictable but cozy dynamic. More interesting to me are the less obvious picks: I've stumbled upon a few 'Demon Slayer'/'Jujutsu Kaisen' fusions that get seriously dark, exploring how Cursed Energy and demons might be two sides of the same terrible coin. Rengoku versus Gojo? Don't threaten me with a good time.
Another creative vein is historical crossovers. I read a wild one where the Demon Slayer Corps got tossed into the 'Vinland Saga' universe. The clash of Tanjiro's modernized Taisho-era sensibilities against the raw, bloody pragmatism of that world's Vikings created a tension no amount of Sun Breathing could easily cut through. It's these kinds of genre-bends, where the core themes of found family and brutality are tested in a wholly different setting, that really show off what crossover potential can be.
And then there's the real niche stuff that somehow works—I saw a 'Demon Slayer'/'Dungeon Meshi' crossover that was just about cooking and surviving in a dungeon, with Nezuko's demon diet adding a hilarious twist to Laios's monster cuisine obsession. Sometimes the most creative combos aren't about power scaling, but about which worlds share a surprising emotional wavelength.
