Alma Katsu's 'The Hunger' reimagines the Donner Party tragedy with a supernatural twist. The known historical mystery of what happened is given a horrific, paranormal explanation. The terror comes from the isolation, the harsh environment, and the something else stalking the wagon train. You're reading knowing the grim historical outcome, but the supernatural layer adds a new, dreadful puzzle to solve alongside the characters.
Ania Ahlborn's 'Brother' is more psychological/slasher, but it has elements of a familial curse and the mystery of the family's origins in the backwoods. The supernatural might be more suggested than overt, but the atmosphere is so thick with generational horror and inevitability that it feels like a dark force is at work. The mystery for the protagonist, Michael, is whether he can escape the monstrous legacy he was born into.
Gemma Files' 'Experimental Film' is a niche pick. A film historian becomes obsessed with lost early Canadian silent films and uncovers a supernatural entity tied to the footage. The horror is slow-burn and cerebral, with the mystery being academic and historical—digging through archives and piecing together the cursed history of the filmmaker. The terror manifests through the films themselves. It's a love letter to film history and a genuinely creepy mystery.

If you're easily aroused, grab a rose. If you're easily spooked, maybe snuggle up with a teddy bear before diving into this twisted tale.
The journey ahead will challenge your senses and push boundaries, so brace yourself for an experience that’s as thrilling as it is unsettling.
Disclaimer: This story is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.
Forget everything paranormal romance taught you about playing it safe. The vampires here don't sparkle and the werewolves don't apologize for their nature, here the demons are surprisingly good at negotiation.
Freaky After Dark is a collection of steamy paranormal stories where supernatural creatures get to be exactly what they are; powerful, possessive, and irresistibly magnetic.
These aren't just about pretty faces with fangs. Every creature has their own nature, their own needs, their own way of loving that's deliciously different from anything human.
From vampires whose bites promise pleasure to werewolves who claim their mates under the full moon and demons who seduce with words as much as touch, Nagas who wrap around you, Dragons whose warmth becomes addictive. And yes, a few beings with creative anatomy.
There's an actual story here with conflict, emotion and characters who probably want more than just a quick hook-up. But when desire takes over, these creatures don't hold back, they are intense, devoted, and they know exactly how to make you forget your own name.
Expect claiming marks, protective possession, fated mates, size differences, primal need, reverse harem and pleasures that borders on overwhelming, and supernatural stamina that doesn't quit.
️Not for you if: you prefer things slow and gentle, or if the idea of non-human lovers doesn't appeal.
Perfect for you if: you've always wondered what it would be like to be wanted by something powerful, to be claimed by someone who'll never let go, to find out if monsters really are better in bed.

Dear reader, you have been warned.
This isn't your regular romance... In fact, it's not romance at all. These are unapologetic stories of pleasure, lust, power and obsession.
These men and women will infiltrate your thoughts, your mind and your body, and they will do so without your permission. Every word is spoken out of sinful desire, and every action will leave you dripping from your core, ready to burst.
Are you ready to go down this rabbit hole where the line between lust and moral is drawn? If you are not, then leave while you still can, but if you are, then go ahead and turn the pages, be ready to have your darkest desires dug out and explored.

Ramsey Campbell is a master of subtle, psychological supernatural horror. 'The Influence' is about a young girl seemingly possessed by the spirit of her domineering, deceased grandmother. The horror is in the slow, insidious takeover of a child's personality, leaving you wondering about inheritance, both genetic and spiritual.
Somebody's gotta say it: Lovecraft. His entire mythos is built on a kind of inverted, atheistic occultism. The 'gods' are cosmic, amoral forces, and the rituals are desperate attempts by humans to understand or appease them, which usually ends in madness. Stories like 'The Call of Cthulhu', 'The Dunwich Horror', and 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward' are basically blueprints for modern cult and ritual horror. The religious element is the terror of discovering that the universe is not only godless but actively hostile, and that the few who glimpse this truth are driven insane by it. The prose is dated, but the ideas are foundational.
I appreciate when the atmosphere is built through documents—journals, letters, case notes. 'Wylding Hall' does this with interviews. 'House of Leaves' is the extreme of it. That format forces a slow burn because you’re piecing the terror together yourself. The atmosphere becomes a puzzle, and the fear is in the gaps you have to fill with your own imagination.
