Is He Who Fights With Monsters: Book Twelve The Final Novel In The Series?

Some folks online claim this web novel series could end with volume 12, but I haven't seen official word from Shirtaloon.

He Who Fights with Monsters: Book Twelve is not the end of the series. I think the author intends to continue the story in a 13th book. Meantime, I can recommend the final book of another long series, HUNJI: A Broken Wolf & the last witch of Andora - Book 4, which just concluded the fight of a cursed wolf protagonist against the world’s last witch in a very satisfactory way after all that time. The author managed to bring to a close the long arcs of the two main characters in a very natural and earned way.

This is not the end of the series. The author is still active in the book’s Discord server and confirmed that there are more books coming. Book twelve is definitely picking up steam with the Astral Kingdom being the center of conflict and I’m excited to see how Jason’s power grows as he hasn’t even reached his peak Diamond rank yet. So many theories of where the story can go from here and I’m excited to see where the author takes the story after the cryptic epilogue.

Finished book 12 last night. I’m rioting as if book 12 is the end of the series. Such a huge cliffhanger between chapters regarding the dimensional rift. I know Shirtaloon is working on upcoming chapters for Patreon subscribers, so there’s obviously more to come. Each book is layered so well with new information about the essences, etc. and the behind the scenes look at the pantheon and their politics. Book 12 finally delves into the Builder’s history, but raises so many questions and leaves so much to be desired for closure.

I know this would read as incredibly rushed if this were the final book, given how much depth there is in the essences, and the respective mythologies of the various pantheons. My money is on 15+ main books and quite a few spin-offs.

Book 12 of 'He Who Fights with Monsters' isn't the end of the story (thank you Shirtaloon and source of stories). I'm on book one of this series but the rate of world building has been great and it's clear there's a lot more to explore. The building of the politics, evolving magic and the development of the main characters is all coming together in a really good way for something bigger.

While I wouldn't object to Shirtaloon wrapping things up soon (it's exceptionally rare for any long-running work to stay this good for this long), the last couple books have been an absolute blast, so as long as he continues to write this sort of funny and heartfelt stuff, I’ll be happy to continue to read along.

Wait, Book 12 already? I feel like I just finished reading Book 5. From the Fan Forums and author updates, it seems that this will not be the end of the series, but rather the beginning of the end of the current story arc, diving deeper into the cosmic-level conflicts and still many unresolved personal storylines. It seems like there will be several more books of adventure and growing up in store for us, and hopefully some closure for lesser-followed characters like Clive and Sophie.

Please don’t end the series too soon! I am loving the way that the author develops the main story as well as the side characters like Clive and Sophie. Book twelve feels to me like the beginning of the end of the story, rather than the end. I hope that the author has enough material for at least another trilogy!
