Honestly, I had zero luck on the mainstream free sites for this one. Ended up buying it on Google Play Books after I saw a review saying the narration was decent. The price was okay, maybe the cost of a couple of coffees. I tried the 'sample' feature first to make sure the narrator's voice didn't grate on me—some older children's book narrations can be a bit too saccharine. This one was fine.
It's also listed on Apple Books and Kobo, so if you have store credit on one of those platforms, that's a route. I'd skip the hunt on random audiobook aggregator sites; they're either dead ends or look super dodgy. Sometimes just paying a few bucks is worth the peace of mind.

I ran into the same hunt a while back. The series is 'Which Witch?' by Eva Ibbotson, right? It's a bit of a classic, so the audiobook availability is a mixed bag depending on where you live. I found it most reliably on Audible – they have a version narrated by someone with a wonderfully quirky voice that fits the story's charm. It's not always included in the Plus catalog, though, so you might need a credit or to purchase it.
Otherwise, check your local library's digital service, like Libby or OverDrive. That's how I got my copy, though there was a short waitlist. It doesn't seem to be on the major free platforms like Spotify Audiobooks or YouTube in any complete, official form. Just watch out for those sketchy 'full book' uploads; the audio quality is usually terrible.

Look, it's not the easiest find. Audible has it. Your library app might. If not, secondhand CD versions pop up on eBay sometimes, but who has a CD player anymore? The digital purchase is the simplest path if you're impatient like me.

Eliza Ward does not fall through time.
Time bends toward her.
Pulled from the present into Revolutionary America, Eliza becomes trapped in a landscape where history repeats unevenly, battles restart with variations, and memory functions as both anchor and weapon. She is not a chosen heroine, but a constant: a woman whose awareness destabilizes the moment itself.
She meets Mercy Hale, a midwife and witch who understands time as a negotiation rather than a force to command. Mercy aids Eliza’s survival while refusing the role of savior, having already learned the cost of standing too close to history’s center.
During a looping battle, Eliza saves Thomas Reed, a Continental soldier who does not shift when time does. Thomas is an anchor: steady, observant, unchanged across iterations. Their bond deepens in an almost-normal village where time briefly behaves.
Eliza’s intervention triggers time’s response. Rather than immediate destruction, time collects interest. Mercy bargains to spare Eliza and Thomas, sacrificing her own future to stabilize the present. Time extracts payment from Eliza as well, stripping away her voice, the very tool she uses to name and hold moments in place.
Silenced and unmoored, Eliza is violently displaced back into the original battle. Unable to anchor the moment, she watches Thomas die in the version of history that was always waiting beneath her defiance.
Told in rotating perspectives between Eliza, Thomas, and Mercy, The Hours That Refused to Behave is a lyrical time-travel novel about revolution, restraint, and consequence, asking not whether history can be changed, but who pays when it is.

audiobooks are my lifeline, and I've explored quite a few witchy series in audio format. One of the best is 'The Once and Future Witches' by Alix E. Harrow, which has a phenomenal narration that brings the sisters' bond and magical rebellion to life. Another standout is 'A Discovery of Witches' by Deborah Harkness—the audiobook version adds so much depth to the historical and magical elements.
For those who enjoy lighter, more humorous takes, 'The Witches of New York' by Ami McKay has a charming narration that captures the quirky vibes perfectly. And if you're into YA, 'Serpent & Dove' by Shelby Mahurin's audiobook is addictive, with dual narrators that enhance the enemies-to-lovers dynamic. The 'Witchlands' series by Susan Dennard also has great audio adaptations, especially for fans of epic fantasy with strong female leads. Whether you prefer dark, whimsical, or romantic witchy tales, there’s an audiobook version that’ll cast a spell on you.
yes, many of them have audiobook versions! For example, 'The Witch's Heart' by Genevieve Gornichec has a fantastic narration that really brings the story to life. Audiobooks add this magical layer to the experience, especially with the right voice actor. Some other favorites like 'A Discovery of Witches' by Deborah Harkness and 'The Ex Hex' by Erin Sterling also come in audio format. I love listening to them while commuting or doing chores—it feels like being wrapped in a cozy, mystical blanket. The tone and pacing of the narrator can make or break the immersion, so I always check samples before buying.
