My method was to read the first five in order to get grounded, then skip around based on summaries that intrigued me. I eventually circled back and filled in the gaps. Having the master list was essential for that 'fill in the gaps' phase, so I knew what I'd missed.

Is there a dramatic difference between reading order and publication order? For this series, no, they're the same. Kellerman hasn't written any prequels that slot into the middle of the timeline, like some fantasy authors do. So 'chronological order' is just the order they were published, which makes finding a list much simpler.

I think the Kindle store does a decent job. If you look up one Alex Delaware book, there's usually a 'series page' link that shows them all in a numbered list. Amazon wants you to buy the whole set, so they make the order clear. It's a commercial solution, but it works.

Does anyone know if the graphic novel adaptation of 'The Web' is considered part of the main chronology? Or the short stories? A truly 'complete' list gets fuzzy with the ancillary material. Most lists just stick to the core novels, which is probably for the best.

LibraryThing is another great cataloging site where users have created comprehensive 'series order' tags. You can see which books are most commonly owned by other members, which gives you a sense of their popularity or essentialness within the series run.

CAMILLA WALTERS thought she had come to the end of the road when fate caught up with her. No where left to run or hide, on the verge of becoming fish food at the hands of drug runners she owed a lot of money to.
That was until fate brought her ALEXI, head of the family CARRERO - The unexpected hero who saved her ass and changed her life in one easy manouvre.
Who knew she would have to sign her soul over to the devil in a bid to stay alive and in doing so, lose her heart and mind in the process.
This is not your typical hearts and roses story - Let the games begin and the war commence.
This is book 7 in The Carrero Series, although you can read this without prior books. There are back story hints from previous books worked in, so this new trio can be read alone.
For a fuller understanding then start with The Carrero Effect .
Blake Landon, he's the hot, serious guy that all the girls drool over in our pack, and the next in line to become our pack’s alpha. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up being his mate.
He's arrogant, short-tempered, and no one- I mean no one dares to defy him. So how in the world did I end up being his mate?
When things turn, and we go face to face with a powerful vampire clan, he and I get thrown into having to choose to fight together, or sacrifice one or another. One thing is for sure, things will not end well, and will be up to us to sacrifice our love for each other, or our pack.

Book 1 Saints and Sinners
She was the light to my dark.
The saint to my sinner. with her innocent eyes and devilish curves.
A Madonna that was meant to be admired but never touched.
Until someone took that innocence from her.
She left.
The darkness in my heart was finally complete.
I avenged her, I killed for her, but she never came back.
Until I saw her again. An angel dancing around a pole for money.
She didn’t know I owned that club. She didn’t know I was watching.
This time I won’t let her escape.
I will make her back into the girl I knew.
Whether she likes it or not.
Book 2 Judge and Jury
I can’t stop watching her.
I’m not even sure I want to.
Taylor Lawson, blonde, beautiful, and totally oblivious to how much dangers she’s in.
She’s also the one juror in my upcoming murder trial that hasn’t been bought.
The one who can put me behind bars for a very long time.
I know I should execute her.
After all that’s what I do.
I am the Judge.
I eliminate threats to The Family.
And Taylor is a threat.
But I don’t want to kill her.
Possessing her, making her love me seems like a much better plan for this particular Juror.

The charm of the series is in the continuity. A throwaway line in 'The Clinic' might resonate again five books later. Reading out of order robs you of those little connections. The relationship between Alex and Robin has its ups and downs that progress logically through the sequence.
Honestly, I just wait for the annual new release. I've been reading them as they come out for fifteen years now. The order, for me, is just the calendar. Every fall, there's a new Kellerman. I don't have to think about it. It's a ritual. I buy the hardcover, spend a weekend with it, and then wait for next year. The backlist is there for people just discovering it, but for long-time fans, the order is simply time itself.
There's something nice about a series that outlasts trends, that's just always there. In a world of constant change, Alex Delaware is a constant. He might not age much, but I do, and revisiting him each year is like checking in with a steady, if fictional, friend.
Check used bookstores! They always have piles of Kellerman paperbacks. I built my entire collection for a few dollars a book just by grabbing the next in order whenever I saw it. It's a treasure hunt that makes reading them feel even more rewarding.
Remember, the publication order is the chronological order. He hasn't done any prequels or out-of-sequence entries. So just find a list from 1985 onward and go straight down.
Some people argue you can read them as stand-alones, and technically the mysteries are self-contained. But the heart of the series isn't the whodunit; it's the characters. You need to experience the fallout from 'Private Eyes' to understand Alex's mindset in 'The Clinic'. You need to see Robin's journeys to get their relationship dynamics.
Skipping the first ten books is like walking into a long-running family drama and trying to figure out why everyone is mad at Uncle Larry. You'll get the gist of the current argument, but none of the depth.
I prefer the ones with more Milo involvement. Some books sideline him a bit. Reading in order, you learn which ones are 'Milo-heavy' based on the plot and you get excited. Out of order, it's a crapshoot. So if Milo is your draw, a curated order based on his involvement might work, but you need the publication list to even figure that out!
The practical answer for newcomers: Google 'Jonathan Kellerman books in order'. Find a list that is only publication order, not grouped by series. Read that list from top to bottom. That is the definitive, no-guesswork order. It will seamlessly integrate the crossovers, standalone novels, and other series exactly as the author released them.
