Where Can I Find A Complete Michael Connelly Lincoln Lawyer Reading List?
Finished the first Bosch crossover and loved Mickey Haller's court drama. Need the proper reading order, including short stories and crossovers, to avoid spoilers. Spoilers are a real concern.

I appreciate all the detailed answers here. Learned more about Connelly's universe from this thread than I expected. I think I'll start with the first book and see how it goes. All this talk about crossovers and timelines is cool, but a bit overwhelming for a newcomer. Maybe after a book or two, I'll come back and look at the expanded lists.

Interesting timing—I just finished binging the audiobooks. The narrator, Peter Giles, is phenomenal, by the way. For the listening order, I followed the main Haller arc. Audible has them all clearly listed under 'Lincoln Lawyer' series. It's those six novels. But the cool thing is, if you search for 'Michael Connelly' on Audible, you can see his entire bibliography and sort by character.
I accidentally listened to 'The Brass Verdict' before realizing it was a direct sequel to both a Haller and a Bosch book. It was fine, but I wish I'd known. So my advice is to at least read 'The Lincoln Lawyer' first, then maybe check a connector guide before picking the next one. Some podcasts dedicated to crime fiction also have episodes breaking down the ideal Connelly reading order.

Can we talk about how good the Netflix series is? It actually got me to look up the reading order. The show incorporates elements from several books, not just the first one. So if you're coming from the show and want the full literary background, you need a broader list than just the first novel. The show pulls from 'The Brass Verdict' and 'The Fifth Witness' too, I believe.
For the books, I'd say your mission is to read the six Haller-focused novels. After that, if you're invested in the world, just start reading Connelly's books in publication order from 'The Black Echo' onward. You'll meet Mickey again when he pops up, and it'll be a cool surprise. Trying to pre-plan every single appearance takes the fun out of it.

I'm waiting for someone to post a link to one of those fancy infographics. You know, the ones with arrows and boxes and cool fonts. Those are always the easiest to follow. A picture is worth a thousand forum posts debating what counts as a 'true' Lincoln Lawyer book.
Until then, my contribution: The list is six books long. The first one has a movie and a TV show. The rest are waiting for you. Don't overthink it. Pick up Book 1. If you're not hooked by chapter five, the list won't matter anyway.

Hmm, I see a lot of lists, but nobody's mentioning the short stories. Connelly has written short fiction featuring Haller, like 'The Perfect Triangle' in the anthology 'The Best American Mystery Stories 2016'. If you're an absolute completionist, tracking down those is part of the 'complete' list. They're not major, but they exist.
For the novels, the consensus is pretty clear on the six core books. Where it gets fuzzy is the definition of 'Lincoln Lawyer' list. Is it books about Mickey Haller, or books that feel like 'Lincoln Lawyer' novels? 'The Brass Verdict' feels like one. 'The Crossing' does not, even though he's in it. I'd argue the spirit of the list is the former. So stick to his name being on the cover or in the series title on the spine.

This is the third and last book of The Legacies series. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but it is recommended to read the other books first for better comprehension.
Attorney Yna Reyes has built her life on discipline, logic, and control. Shaped by loss at a young age, she learned to survive without relying on anyone, becoming a respected lawyer and prosecutor who keeps her heart carefully guarded. Love, to her, is a distraction something fragile she cannot afford.
Everything changes after a chance collision with Gabriel Valesquez.
What begins as an unexpected encounter slowly turns into something deeper, quieter, and far more dangerous than either of them anticipated. Gabriel does not pursue Yna with grand gestures or pressure. Instead, he offers patience, honesty, and a presence that challenges the walls she has spent years building.
As Yna navigates demanding cases, long nights at the firm, and the protective concern of her closest friends, she finds herself drawn into a connection she never planned to want. Meanwhile, Gabriel carries a past he has never fully confronted one that threatens to resurface just as Yna begins to open her heart.
Between ambition and vulnerability, silence and longing, The Man I Should’ve Never Met is a slow burn romance about healing, restraint, and the courage it takes to choose love after learning how to survive alone.
A friend told me to read the Bosch series first, which I did, and then jumping into 'The Lincoln Lawyer' felt like meeting an old friend's rival. It adds a layer of dramatic irony because you know Harry's side of things. If you have the time, starting with the early Bosch novels like 'The Black Echo' gives you a richer sense of the LA Connelly is building. Then when Mickey rolls in, you understand the ecosystem he's operating in, cops and all.
Okay, so this one actually gets a little messy because Connelly loves to weave his characters together. If you're coming in fresh for Mickey Haller, the defense attorney, you should absolutely start with 'The Lincoln Lawyer'. That's non-negotiable. It sets up his whole world, his office in the backseat of the Lincoln, and his complex relationships.
From there, the straightforward path is just publication order: 'The Brass Verdict', 'The Reversal', 'The Fifth Witness', 'The Gods of Guilt', and then 'The Law of Innocence'. That's the pure Lincoln Lawyer sequence. But here's where it gets tangled: 'The Brass Verdict' is basically a crossover with Harry Bosch, and it's a direct sequel to 'The Lincoln Lawyer' AND Connelly's Bosch novel 'The Black Echo'. You don't need to know Bosch's backstory, but it adds layers. Some purists insist you read the early Bosch books first for full context, which feels like a huge commitment to me.
My take? Stick with Mickey's core books. If you fall in love with the universe, then circle back to Bosch. Starting anywhere else but that first Haller book is just asking for confusion about who this guy is and why he operates the way he does. The later books, especially 'The Law of Innocence', really build on his established reputation and past cases.
The audiobook versions are a whole vibe. Peter Giles's narration is so laid-back and confident, perfect for Haller's character. I listened to them all on my commute over a few months, in order. It felt like following a long, addictive podcast series. The consistency of the voice from one book to the next really glued the experience together. Highly recommend that format if you're an audio person.
