Man, I feel like the old forums were better for this kind of hyper-specific search. Most big sites now are drowning in the same popular ships. My weird trick is to actually go into the Dragon Ball Z tag on Archive of Our Own and filter to 'Other Fandom Tags'. Sometimes people won't tag the crossover properly in the main fandom tag, but they'll list the other fandom in the additional tags. I found this fantastic 'DBZ/Chrono Trigger' mashup that way, with an OC from the latter paired with Vegeta. The characterization was shockingly solid.

It's a bit of a slog, though. You have to be willing to wade through a lot of untagged or poorly tagged stuff. I also lurk on some dedicated anime crossover communities on SpaceBattles and Sufficient Velocity. The writing quality there is hit-or-miss, but the ideas are often way more ambitious than what you see on fanfiction.net.

Honestly? You're probably better off writing it yourself. The really good, character-driven OC pairings in crossovers are so rare they might as well be mythical. When I think about it, the issue is twofold: you need a writer who understands both source materials deeply and can create an OC that doesn't feel like a cheap self-insert. That's a tall order.

I've had better luck looking for unfinished gems from years ago, saved on personal websites or LiveJournal archives. There was this one 'DBZ/Rurouni Kenshin' story with an original healer character that completely recontextualized the Saiyan saga. It died after ten chapters, but those ten were more compelling than a hundred completed fics on the big sites.

Try searching for the specific secondary fandom you want crossed with DBZ, rather than starting in DBZ. Like, if you want a 'Star Wars' crossover, search that fandom's tag and filter for DBZ. You catch different stories that way—authors who are primarily writing for the other fandom sometimes handle the DBZ elements in a fresher, less power-level-obsessed manner. The pairing dynamics can be surprisingly thoughtful.
