Supporting casts serve different functions. In the political novels, secondary characters are often pieces on the board—allies, informants, obstacles. In the family stories, they're the tapestry itself: friends, lovers, business partners who weave in and out of the central family's orbit, shaping its destiny in subtler ways. One uses characters to advance a plot; the other lets the plot emerge from the interactions of a rich cast of characters.
The villains! In the sagas, the antagonist is often a family member or a rival born from similar circumstances—it's personal, intimate hatred. In the political books, the villain might be an ideology, a foreign agent, a systemic corruption. The conflict is less about a blood feud and more about a clash of principles or national interests. Both can be compelling, but hating a cousin who steals your inheritance hits different than distrusting a shadowy cabinet secretary.
The prose itself feels different to me. The thriller chapters are shorter, punchier, ending on cliffhangers that demand you keep going. The saga chapters can afford to be more languid, descriptive, building a world you live in for weeks. It's like comparing a tightly-edited action film to a lavish, multi-season TV drama. Both are fantastic entertainment, but they operate on different narrative wavelengths. One wants your pulse up, the other wants your heart invested.
The narrative drive comes from different places. A political thriller is fundamentally plot-driven: the sequence of events is the point. A family saga is character-driven: the events are important because of how they change (or fail to change) the people involved. If you took the plot of a thriller and gave it to new characters, it would function similarly. If you took the plot of a saga and gave it to new characters, it would be a completely different story, because the characters are the story.
The stakes feel different, psychologically. In a thriller, the stakes are often external and massive: war, economic collapse, national disgrace. In a saga, the stakes are intensely personal: losing the family business, being disinherited, a child's future. Ironically, the personal stakes of the sagas often feel higher to me as a reader. I might not fully grasp the geopolitical implications of a leaked treaty, but I absolutely understand the devastation of a father's rejection.

Elena Sinclair was sixteen when her billionaire father was murdered by his own brothers, who then tried to kill her to claim his empire. Smuggled to safety and declared dead in a staged accident, she vanished into a new life as a struggling bartender—until one reckless, drunken night, on the evening she had turned 20, erased everything she’d fought to forget.
She woke in the bed of Alexander Grey, the ruthless CEO of Grey enterprise and the city’s most powerful man. Panicked, she fled before he could see her face, leaving only a single trace of her innocence behind.
Five years later, Elena is raising their secret twins alone when fate forces her back into Alexander's world. Hired as his personal assistant, she must hide her identity, her children, and the truth of that unforgettable night. But Alex is no longer the stranger she escaped; he’s obsessed with the mysterious woman who vanished from his bed, and the closer he gets, the more the pieces of her past begin to unravel.
As old enemies resurface to finish what they started, Elena's carefully guarded life explodes. With billion-dollar empires and two innocent heirs caught in the crossfire, she must decide whether to keep running—or trust the one man who could destroy her… or finally set her free.
Honestly, his storytelling engine hasn't changed much, and that's not a bad thing. He found a formula that sells millions: ambitious men, ruthless competition, and a meticulously constructed plot. Where I see the evolution is in the settings and stakes. Early novels were often about building empires from nothing, like in 'Kane and Abel' or 'The Prodigal Daughter'. Now, they're just as likely to be about protecting a legacy or navigating the corridors of Westminster power, like in the Clifton Chronicles or the William Warwick series. The drive for power is still central, but the battlefield has shifted from raw capitalism to established institutions.
