I read the original novel ages ago, before the manhua blew up, and my memory's a bit fuzzy. The core group is definitely Xia, the human girl, and her first few beastmen mates: the leopard Orion, the tiger Curtis, and the snake Mo Luo. But calling them 'main characters' feels off because the narrative is almost entirely from Xia's POV. The beasts are more like... archetypes with specific personalities attached to their animal traits. Orion's the aloof protector, Curtis is the fiercely loyal one, Mo Luo is the enigmatic and possessive one.

Later on, a wolf named Grey and an eagle named something-or-other join, and I think there's a lion king? The story sprawls. The manhua simplified some of it, but even then it's a massive cast. I dropped it after a hundred-something chapters because it started feeling repetitive – new handsome beast appears, conflict, he joins the family. The appeal is totally in the exotic world-building and the reverse harem tension, not in nuanced character studies. If you want to know who matters, just stick with the first three beastmen and maybe Grey; the rest are basically recurring side characters with benefits.

Main character's Lin Xia. She's surrounded by beastmen like Orion (leopard), Curtis (tiger), and Mo Luo (snake). The manhua adds more as it goes, but those three are central. It's her story navigating that world and relationships.

Okay, so I've seen this asked a lot and I think people get confused because the title gets thrown around for different things. If we're talking about the most famous one, which is the web novel turned manhua 'Beauty and the Beasts', the main character is a modern college girl named Lin Xia who gets transported to a primitive world. Her whole thing is survival and ending up with a harem of beastmen husbands. The main beasts? There's a leopard, a tiger, a snake, and a couple others – honestly the cast expands like crazy after a while and it's hard to keep track. You've got the cold leopard Orion, the devoted tiger Curtis, the tricky snake Mo Luo... but it feels like a new love interest pops up every other arc.

What's interesting is Xia herself is kinda polarizing. She's not your typical overpowered isekai heroine; she's often scared, makes questionable choices, and her primary skill is basically cooking and herbal knowledge. The story's less about epic battles and more about tribe politics, survival logistics, and, well, the harem dynamics. If you go into it expecting deep character exploration you might be disappointed – it's more of a wish-fulfillment, slice-of-life (in a beast world) kind of vibe. The art in the manhua adaptation is pretty, though sometimes the proportions get... creatively exaggerated.

Who are the main characters in That Beauty Is a Beast?

I binge-read 'That Beauty Is a Beast' last summer, and the characters totally stuck with me! The story revolves around Claire, this fiery noblewoman who’s got a sharp tongue and even sharper wit—she’s the 'beast' of the title, but in the best way. Then there’s Ethan, the so-called 'beauty,' a ridiculously handsome knight who’s way more than just a pretty face. Their banter is gold, especially when Claire roasts him for being too perfect. The side characters are just as memorable, like Claire’s mischievous younger sister, Lena, who’s always stirring up trouble, and Sir Gareth, Ethan’s gruff but loyal mentor. What I love is how none of them feel like cardboard cutouts—they’ve all got hidden depths and flaws that make the story way more engaging. Honestly, the dynamic between Claire and Ethan is what hooked me. She’s all brains and defiance, while he’s got this calm, strategic mind under that charming exterior. The way they clash but also secretly admire each other’s strengths? Chef’s kiss. And Lena’s antics add this hilarious lightness to balance out the political scheming. It’s one of those rare stories where even the minor characters, like the snarky palace chef or Ethan’s rival, Lord Vexley, leave an impression.
