Who Are The Main Characters In 'House On The Little Prairie'?

In ‘House on the Little Prairie’ we are introduced to the lives of the Ingalls family. There is youthful, enterprising, adventurous Laura, and Pa who, gentle as a guardian, strums the strings of his guitar and regales his family with tales of days gone by. Although Ma is described as being ‘softer’ than Pa, she is revealed to have a steel rod for a backbone. This very nurturing person harbors her family within her warm and loving home. We also are given a glimpse of Mary and Carrie, the two younger sisters, growing up. Watching them is just like watching your own siblings. You want them to grow up and become successful. The whole Ingalls family is an extremely talented and cohesive unit. Their trials and their successes are relatable to us readers, making their lives seem very real.

I return to 'House on the Little Prairie' chapter of the encounters of Laura Ingalls, who embodies adventure and spirit. Here we are again plunged into the life of this young girl and her family in the prairie. We follow her through thick and thin and we can feel love that ties her to her family. The pa, so gentle, friendly, with his stories, his music... But he has a great deal of wisdom in his encounters with the grown ups of his time.

Ma is just a typical character to read about because she has quiet strength and she is very nurturing to her family. But I really admire her for upholding their family values and showing her love to her family in hard times. Then there is Mary who is Laura's sister and she is very mature for her age and shows a lot of grace. I really like Carrie too because she is so young and sweet. Her presence really makes the family seem more real and I can really see why Laura would want to go back to her adventures and relive them to remember the love of her family and the hard times that they had to go through.

'House on the Little Prairie' is a sweet little book about a host of endearing characters. While many of them are lovely, there is one main character in particular whose story is being told here. Laura Ingalls is an adventurous little girl who is brave enough to tackle the rugged frontier life. Yet, she is also kind, gentle, and intelligent which makes her experience very relatable to most readers. The Pa of this little family is also a very sweet man. He is always strumming a few chords on his guitar and singing songs. He teaches his little girl to not only survive in the wilderness but to also appreciate the value of family and love that he has found.

Ma is another wonderful character in the book. She has much dedication to her family and always seems to be resilient. I like that she has her own way of dealing with things and is very loving to Laura and her two other daughters. In many ways, Mary is the opposite of Carrie. She is an older sister of Laura’s and is very wise and even graceful at times. She tries her best to be good for her family and I admire her for it.

When I read this book I feel like I am there with Laura Ingalls and her family in the little house on the prairie. The author has created a beautiful portayal of life on the frontier with all its struggles and challenges. Yet in the midst of all that hard work the author brings to life the simple joys of life that connect us all, regardless of the time in which we live. For me this is a book that I go back to every few years or so – I feel like I am visiting old friends. It is great to see how they have all grown and developed over the years.

While there are many rich characters in this story, ‘The House on the Little Prairie’ focuses mainly on Laura. She is so spontaneous and resilient. Pa is so warm and loving, and his songs and stories fill our hearts with love and memories. Ma has the strength to hold her family together during hard times. Mary is the wise older sister. Carrie is so innocent and hercomments are so endearing. Together they go on a wonderful adventure that is heartwarming and unforgettable.
