As a fan, I was slightly disappointed to find that there isn't an anime version for 'The Apothecary Diaries'. But its captivating storyline lives on through its manga adaptation and the original light novels, each of which stand as a testament to the rich narrative woven by the original author. We can just hope there will be an anime adaptation in future.

As an anime enthusiast, I keep track of episode counts! Currently, 'The Apothecary Diaries' hasn't received an anime adaptation, sadly. But as a light novel, it has multiple volumes for readers to walk through the intriguing stories of Maomao, our apothecary in the imperial court. It's a riveting blend of historical drama, mystery, and a touch of romance. Keeping my hopes high for an anime adaptation one day! Meanwhile, you can always experience the story through the manga adaptation.

How many volumes are in The Apothecary Diaries series?

The Apothecary Diaries' is one of those series that hooked me from the first volume. Last I checked, the light novel had around 15 volumes published in Japan, with English translations catching up steadily. What I love about it is how each volume peels back another layer of Maomao's world—her sharp wit, the palace intrigue, and those slow-burn character dynamics. The manga adaptation’s gorgeous art adds another dimension too. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve reread certain scenes, especially the medical mysteries. The way the author balances historical detail with humor is just chef’s kiss. If you’re new to it, brace yourself—the rabbit hole goes deep, and you’ll probably blaze through the available volumes faster than expected.

is apothecary diaries finished or are more chapters coming?

Every time I check the fandom hubs I get a little hopeful, and the short answer is: no, 'Apothecary Diaries' is not finished. The original story (in its published novel and manga forms) is still progressing, so more chapters and volumes have been coming out, albeit with an irregular rhythm. There are times when releases slow down because of production schedules or author breaks, which can make it feel like things are dragging, but the narrative itself hasn't been wrapped up in a tidy, final way. If you love the slow-burn worldbuilding and the way mysteries thread through court life, there's more to look forward to — more clues, more character beats, and likely more twists. The anime brought a lot of new readers into the fold, so expect official releases, translations, and fan discussions to continue popping up. Personally, I’m content to follow each new installment as it appears; savoring the small reveals is half the fun.

How many chapters are in The Apothecary Diaries (Light Novel): Volume 1?

The first volume of 'The Apothecary Diaries' light novel is structured into 12 chapters, each unfolding Maomao's intriguing adventures in the imperial court. The pacing feels deliberate, with every chapter adding layers to her character and the mysteries she tackles. I particularly loved how the early chapters establish her unique perspective as an apothecary—small details like her analyzing poisons or herbs make the world feel lived-in. Later chapters ramp up the political intrigue, blending humor and tension perfectly. The finale leaves you craving more, especially with how it teases future arcs. If you enjoy slow-burn worldbuilding with a clever protagonist, this volume’s chapter breakdown is super satisfying.

apothecary diaries ending

As of now, The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) does not have a definitive ending, as the story is still ongoing. The original web novel by Natsu Hyuuga (often mistakenly attributed to “Niki Chō,” the illustrator for the light novel version) continues to be serialized, and both the light novel and manga adaptations are actively updating. Current Status of the Story Web Novel: The web novel is in progress, with recent chapters delving into complex political and personal developments involving the Emperor’s health and internal court struggles. Light Novels: Officially published light novels are slightly behind the web novel and offer a more polished narrative. They have reached Volume 14 (as of 2025). Anime Adaptation: Season 1 covered up to around Volume 5. A second season has been announced, expected to continue adapting the light novel plot faithfully. Key Character Arcs Maomao: A brilliant apothecary with a sharp wit and curiosity for solving medical and social mysteries. She remains focused on practicing medicine rather than engaging in court politics or romance. Jinshi: A high-ranking eunuch with a mysterious background who harbors affection for Maomao. He wishes for a quiet life with her, but his political standing complicates this desire. Future Possibilities While there’s no official conclusion yet, the story hints at several long-term developments: The growing emotional tension between Maomao and Jinshi may evolve into a more defined relationship. Political intrigue is intensifying, especially with the Emperor’s illness threatening the balance of power. Maomao may eventually need to choose between her medical career and deeper involvement in palace affairs. Bottom Line The Apothecary Diaries doesn’t follow a traditional arc with a fixed end goal. Instead, it’s a slow-burn, character-driven series that emphasizes intrigue, subtle romance, and historical drama. Fans can expect the story to continue unfolding for the foreseeable future, with no confirmed ending announced as of mid-2025.

What is the plot of The Apothecary Diaries?

Ever stumbled into a story that feels like unraveling a beautifully embroidered tapestry? 'The Apothecary Diaries' hooked me with its blend of mystery, historical intrigue, and a protagonist who’s anything but ordinary. Maomao, a sharp-witted apothecary girl, gets dragged into the imperial court’s inner circles after her skills catch attention. Instead of playing damsel, she solves medical mysteries and palace conspiracies with a mix of herbal knowledge and sarcastic wit. The plot thickens as she navigates poisonings, political schemes, and even the eccentricities of the high-ranking officials who rely on her. What I adore is how her outsider perspective peels back the opulent facade of court life—revealing its dark underbelly through her pragmatic (and often hilarious) commentary. It’s not just a whodunit; the relationships steal the show too. Jinshi, the enigmatic palace official, has this magnetic tension with Maomao—part professional respect, part playful antagonism. The way their dynamic evolves, alongside Maomao’s growth from a detached observer to someone emotionally invested, gives the story heart. And the historical-ish setting? A feast for detail lovers, from the pharmacology deep dives to the lavish yet suffocating palace rituals. It’s like 'CSI: Ancient China' meets a character drama, and I’m here for every pill and poison.

is apothecary diaries finished according to the novels?

Totally hooked on the world of 'Apothecary Diaries' here — and no, the story isn't finished in the novels. The light novel/web-novel line continues beyond the scope of the anime and the manga, so while the show gave a lovely, tidy chunk of the plot, there are still plenty of volumes that unpack Maomao's life in the inner court, her investigations, and the slow-building political threads. The anime covers only the early arcs, so it leaves a lot of character growth and mysteries unresolved. If you want the full ride, the original novels are where the plot keeps moving. Official English releases have been catching up, but they don't instantly mirror Japanese publication, so there’s a lag between what’s out in Japan and what readers abroad can access. I’ve been following both the translated volumes and the occasional fan discussions to keep track — it’s a deliciously slow-burn series and I’m glad it’s ongoing because there’s so much more to savor. I can’t wait to see how the author keeps weaving those little details into bigger revelations.
