I looked at the crystal vial in my hand. The pale, pink liquid shimmered inside, giving off a scent that was both mesmerizing and dangerous.

This was the legendary Love Potion, the forbidden magic of our world of Werewolves.

Drink it, and the target would have "love" etched deep into their soul for seven years.

In my last life, I slipped it into my destined mate and Alpha Jason Green's cup.

The potion's effect was stunning.

That cold, distant male werewolf who had always kept his distance suddenly started treating me like the heart of his world.

He stopped staying out all night. He would report his plans to me whenever he had to go somewhere. He stopped sleeping a meter away and instead pulled me into his arms every night.

He also stopped putting his childhood friend Lilian Foster first. For the first time, he even rebuked Lilian at a pack meeting, all for my sake.

I was lost in his tenderness, feeling like the happiest woman in the world. Later, we held the grandest mate-bonding ceremony our pack had ever seen.

Jason kneeled on one knee in front of everyone, kissed my fingertips, and swore to protect me for the rest of my life.

Everyone in the pack was amazed by what had happened. They said I had won, that I had finally tamed the unruly Alpha.

But only I knew the truth. In those seemingly affectionate eyes, there was nothing but the void.

That night, while he caressed my back and whispered that he loved me, another image kept replaying in my mind. The way Jason had once looked at Lilian. That unhidden, instinctive care in his eyes.

Those were his genuine feelings.

The tenderness I had stolen didn't belong to me.

Every time his phone screen lit up.

Every time Lilian appeared.

I couldn't stop doubting whether the Love Potion would suddenly lose its effect. Would Jason suddenly wake up? Would Lilian sway him?

As the pack's Luna, I was supposed to be calm, strong, and unshakable. Yet, this relationship held together by magic was wearing me down little by little. I was slowly crumbling into pieces.

I became sensitive, paranoid, and unstable. I started making mistakes at pack meetings. I fumbled business negotiations. Even my wolf form's fur coat turned dull from long-term anxiety.

One day, I was taking a walk in our territory in hopes of clearing my mind when I overheard a group of Omegas whispering.

"Does Brenda really deserve to be our Luna? Every time the Alpha talks to another she-wolf, she gives them this crazy look. She's so obsessive."

"I don't get what the Alpha sees in her. If you ask me, Lilian is so much better."

"A lot of the pack's members think so, too. I bet Brenda won't keep her place as Luna for long..."

I couldn't listen anymore, and I stumbled home.

Jason saw me and smiled. "Honey? Why are you so disheveled? This isn't like you at all..."

That casual remark completely broke me.

The happiness I had stolen was slowly destroying me.

One day, my nightmare came true.

Lilian used her tongue to trade for the Love Potion's antidote from a witch on the black market.

The moment the effect wore off, I watched the affection vanish from Jason's eyes, replaced by pure, bone-deep disgust.

"Brenda, you make me sick!" he growled.

The Love Potion could fake love, but it could never fake hatred.

Jason personally signed the papers to sell me to the black market. I was used as a live test subject for experimental drugs. In the end, the Corrosive Spellvial burned through my insides.

The last thing I heard before dying was that Jason was sparing no effort to find a way to heal Lilian's tongue.

At that moment, I regretted everything.

I regretted having feelings I should never have had, taking shortcuts I should never have taken, and betting my whole life on a bottle of Love Potion.

-

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day I got the Love Potion.

The crystal vial was still in my hand, the liquid as pure and alluring as ever. But this time, I wasn't giddy with joy like I had been before.

Jason was the Alpha who had once ruled my every emotion.

But…

I didn't want him anymore.

I didn't need a mate who was under the Love Potion's control.

I certainly didn't need to drag myself into the abyss for the sake of so-called "love."

I walked to the mirror, looking back at the woman staring back in its reflection who had yet been beaten down. She was still wild, still free, still whole.

"Brenda Neeson," I said softly to her, "this time, you need to love yourself."

I lifted my head and drank the entire bottle of Love Potion in one go.

"Argh! My face, my face!" Lilian's screech instantly echoed through the banquet hall. As the toxin rapidly ate away at her skin, white smoke appeared as the wound sizzled. It was exactly the same agony I had endured in my last life when she killed me.Jason stood there, stunned. He looked at the disfigured, screaming Lilian on the floor. Then, he looked at me standing under the lights. He didn't dare look straight at me due to my strength.Overwhelming regret flooded him.He finally realized that he had personally thrown away the most precious treasure the Moon Goddess had given him.The guards dragged Lilian away. What awaited her was a life sentence in solitary confinement, with the sight of her own face that looked like a demon in the mirror day in and day out.My life, however, didn't stop because of this charade.Instead, Jason completely lost his mind.He began to show up around me all the time.Whether it was at the gate of the academy or on the road to the lab, that

Lilian looked at me with a smug expression as she stood on the stage. The provocation in her eyes was unmistakable. However, she had overlooked one thing.I had already become a senior healer.I walked forward, snatched the medicine from the waiter's hands, and held it under my nose. That was no antidote. That was clearly a powerful sedative used to suppress the Silver Mist. Its side effect was that the poison would quickly take over one's body after three days. When that happened, their deaths would only be even more miserable!"Stop!" Just as Lilian was about to feed the drug to an elder, I rushed over and knocked the bowl from her hand. The liquid splashed all over the floor, hissing as white smoke rose."What are you doing, Brenda?!" Lilian screamed, pointing at my nose as she cursed my name. "Are you trying to get everyone killed? Are you just jealous of me? Jealous that I'm the one who's saving people?"Jason also pushed his way out of the crowd. When he saw this scene,

Three years later, the multi-pack joint conference was held in Central City.It was a grand event of the highest level in the entire Werewolf Alliance. I attended the event wearing the dark blue uniform that only senior healers could wear. The banquet hall was bright with lights.A tall Alpha walked over with a wineglass in his hand, his smile open and bright. His name was Raymond. He was the older brother of my colleague Roxy, who was also a healer in the project. "Brenda, Roxy praised you to the skies in her letters. Now that I finally get to see you today, I have to say, your presence really stands out."We talked in a relaxed manner.Raymond didn't show the slightest trace of arrogance as we chatted about the northern snow and wind. All we had was a simple admiration between friends.Suddenly, I could feel a sharp gaze on my back. The familiar scent of pine told me who it was.Jason.I politely excused myself from Raymond and turned toward the balcony to get some fresh a

Late one night, after finishing my tasks, I passed by the main laboratory, which was still brightly lit.Through the glass, I could see the tired and serious faces of several senior healers.Suddenly, a memory that had almost been forgotten surfaced in my mind.In the notes my mother left behind, there was a page where she wrote about visiting a small pack when she was young and hearing the locals mention a treatment method for dealing with "guided adsorption".The method was crude, even dangerous, but its core idea was not to forcibly disperse or neutralize the toxin, but to use a gentler way to bind and draw the toxin out of the body, then slowly eliminate it through specific metabolism.I only saw it as a story back then and never thought about it deeply. Now, thanks to the threat of the Eclipse toxin, that memory suddenly resurfaced.I snapped my eyes open, rushed back to my dorm, and took out my mother's notebook that I always carried with me. Under the dim light, I turned a

Jason's mind buzzed, as if something had slammed into him."Three years?" His voice was hoarse and barely sounded like his own. "That's impossible... She never told me..."Byrne laughed. "Why should she tell you? She had left for days, and you didn't even notice. Clearly, you don't care that much about her. I heard she has always wanted you to acknowledge your relationship with her in front of the entire pack, but you kept putting it off. Now that she's gone, isn't this exactly what you wanted?"Jason opened his mouth, but nothing came out.It was true. He and Brenda had never made their relationship public. The Moon Goddess Festival would have been the best moment for him to announce her as the future Luna, and he had ruined it himself. He had long treated everything about Brenda as a given, whether it was her compromises, her patience, or her unreserved love. It had never occurred to him that all of it could vanish one day."She has a new goal in her life now. You should le

  • Potion of Love   Chapter 4

After the rain stopped, I went back to my home and pulled a book from the corner of my shelf. A secret passage revealed itself on the floor with a deep rumble, exposing the stairs to the basement under the cover. This had once been where my mother worked on her herbal remedies.Back then, she had been one of the most gifted healers in the pack. After she was gone, all that remained was the bitter smell of dried hay and old medicine.I went into the basement and slid down against the cold wall as I sat on the floor. All the calm and jaggedness I had forced myself to have in front of Jason shattered piece by piece. The ache I had pushed down in my chest rose again, tears welling in my eyes.It was not because of that dance. It was not because of Lilian. It was not even because of Jason yelling at me without finding out what had really happened. The tears were for the young woman I once was, the one who offered out her heart and had it thrown to the ground, then blamed for gett
