How Does Martial World Connect To Other Novels In The Same Universe?
Heard it's part of Er Gen's universe with other popular web novels. Hoping someone can untangle the shared cosmology and reading order, including character cameos or timeline overlaps.

Sometimes a shared universe is just the author being efficient. Why build a brand-new cosmology from scratch for every story when you have a perfectly good, internally consistent one already developed? It saves creative energy and pleases existing fans. I don't say that as a criticism; it's smart. Tolkien did it with Middle-earth legends. IET is doing it with his cultivation multiverse. It allows him to focus on crafting new characters and plots within a rich, established framework.

Picture a vast, branching tree of realms and reincarnation cycles. At the center, you have the foundational cosmology I Eat Tomatoes built across his library. 'Martial World' and its sequel exist on one major branch, detailing a specific saga within that cosmos. Other novels occupy parallel branches or different layers of the same cosmic tree. They're connected by the underlying rules: the way heavenly daos operate, the existence of primal chaos, and the ultimate goals of cultivation. You won't see Lin Ming pop over to give Luo Feng advice, but they are both navigating the same fundamental, multiversal system established by their creator. It's a connection of setting and metaphysics, not of plot.

For practical reading, the connection means that if you like the progression system in 'Martial World', you'll almost certainly enjoy the other novels. The progression from mortal to god to universe-creator follows a similar satisfying curve. You know what to expect in terms of pacing and payoff. That's the most useful takeaway. Don't get tangled in the lore; follow the gameplay loop. The 'shared universe' is really a guarantee of a familiar and satisfying genre experience.

The most concrete link, beyond the direct sequel, is through the concept of the 'Primordial Universe' or 'Primal Chaos Universe'. In later stages of 'Martial World', the scope expands to this level. Other IET works eventually reach this same overarching plane of existence in their climaxes. Therefore, one could argue all his protagonists who achieve the ultimate pinnacle coexist in this same boundless primal chaos space. They might not meet, but they operate under the same final set of cosmic laws. It's a connection that only becomes relevant at the very peak of power, which most of the story doesn't concern itself with.

You'll find the most direct references in the later chapters of the longer novels. As the scope expands to a cosmic scale, the narration might offhandedly mention the existence of other universe clusters or ancient wars that spanned multiple realities. These vague, grandiose statements are what tie the worlds together. In 'Martial World', such mentions come very late, often when discussing the origin of the universe or the plans of the ultimate antagonists. It's easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but it's there.

The influence of master-discipliple relationships on politics is huge. When a top expert like the Symbol Ancestor takes a disciple, it's not just a personal bond; it's a political event that alters factional alignments. Lin Dong's various masters—from the low-level Lin Family elders to the Dao Sect's hall masters to eventually the Symbol Ancestor—each bring him into a new political sphere. These relationships are key vectors for political integration, granting him status, protection, and enemies he wouldn't have had otherwise.
The 'Martial World' novel's system is a great 'starter pack' for the genre. It has all the classic elements presented in a clear, well-structured way. If you're new to xianxia, this is actually a perfect entry point. You won't be confused by overly complex or deconstructive mechanics. It establishes the tropes firmly: realms, pills, artifacts, beasts, tribulations, ancient experts, arrogant young masters. Once you're comfortable with this framework, you can appreciate other novels that play with or subvert it. Think of it as the foundational textbook. It may not be the most innovative, but it's arguably one of the most competently delivered versions of the classic formula. Its reliability is its strength.
Sometimes I wonder if I enjoyed 'True Martial World' more because I read 'Martial World' first. The moments of recognition, when a name from ancient history dropped, gave me chills. That fan-service for dedicated readers is a huge part of the sequel's appeal. If I'd read them in reverse, those moments would have been meaningless names. I'd have gotten a good story, but I would have missed that secret layer of connection that made me feel like an insider in the universe's history.
That layer of depth is what transforms a good series into a beloved one. It creates a sense of a living, breathing world with a real past. You can only get that by following the timeline of publication and discovery. You discover the world alongside the first protagonist, then later discover its true nature alongside the second. It's a brilliant narrative structure that falls apart if you mix it up.
The fan community often segregates itself. Novel readers and manhua-only readers sometimes have vastly different perceptions of characters and plot points because they've consumed different versions of the story. It leads to interesting debates, but also confusion when someone references an event that was cut from the adaptation.
