Wait, does 'Megaton' refer to the old-school mecha web novel? If so, yeah, there's a sort-of sequel called 'Megaton: Reload'. It started serialization a few years back on a different site, but it's basically a reimagining with a new cast and a slightly altered setting. The tone is darker, less campy. I dropped it after twenty chapters because it lost the original's chaotic charm—felt like it was trying too hard to be taken seriously. So technically yes, but it might not be the follow-up fans are hoping for.

People asking if 'Megaton' has a sequel probably just finished the ending and are desperate for more—I get that. Honestly, I had to go digging because it's not super straightforward. There isn't a direct sequel or a traditional spin-off novel that continues the main plot with the same characters. I think the author, Ippei Terada, wrapped it up pretty conclusively with the whole Battle for Stellar City arc.

That said, there are some peripheral entries in the same universe. There was a manga adaptation that ran for a while, but I heard it ended up diverging quite a bit in the middle. There are also a few light novel side stories focusing on some of the side characters, like a short volume exploring the mercenary crew's backstory before they teamed up with Ken. They were published as bonuses with the manga volumes and are really hard to find in English unless you're scouring specific scanlation sites. It feels more like expanded universe material than a true sequel, and it doesn't really resolve any of the cliffhangers from the main novel's finale.

For me, the lack of a proper continuation kind of works. 'Megaton' was always a bit of a weird, self-contained spectacle—part serious mecha drama, part over-the-top parody of the genre. Trying to extend that might have diluted what made it fun. I'd recommend checking out Terada's other works, like 'Deployers', if you're craving that same mix of tactical combat and absurd humor. It's not the same, but it scratches a similar itch.

Is Megaton novel part of a series or standalone?

Been slowly working my way through all of Karen McManus's stuff, and 'One of Us Is Lying' definitely started this whole connected universe trend for her. 'The Cousins' and 'One of Us Is Next' share that same prep-school-gone-wrong vibe, but 'Megaton' struck me as its own separate beast. It has a completely different setting, for one. We're not at Bayview High anymore; it's all about a rural town grappling with this massive, looming industrial accident threat. The social dynamics feel less about a tight-knit group of suspects and more about community panic, family secrets, and corporate cover-ups. McManus's style is there in the multiple POVs and the secrets, but the core premise doesn't seem to tie back to the Murder Club mystery at all. I'd say it's a standalone in terms of plot and characters. She's just exploring a different kind of thriller framework with this one, which I actually appreciated. It shows her range beyond the high school whodunit.
