I vividly remember the buzz around Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes, so when I heard about adaptations, I had to dig in. The most notable one is 'The Dropout,' a Hulu series based on the podcast of the same name, which itself drew heavily from John Carreyrou’s book 'Bad Blood.' The series stars Amanda Seyfried as Holmes, and it’s a gripping dive into the rise and fall of Theranos.

There’s also a documentary called 'The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley' by Alex Gibney, which covers similar ground but with real-life interviews and footage. Both adaptations are fantastic in their own ways, with 'The Dropout' offering a more dramatized, character-driven take, while the documentary feels like a cold, hard exposé. If you’re into this kind of high-stakes corporate drama, these are must-watches.

The Theranos saga is one of those stories that feels too wild to be true, but it’s all real, and it’s been adapted in some fascinating ways. The standout is definitely 'The Dropout' on Hulu, which is based on the ABC News podcast and John Carreyrou’s 'Bad Blood.' Amanda Seyfried’s portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes is uncanny, capturing her enigmatic presence and the sheer audacity of the scam. The series does a great job of balancing the personal and professional sides of the story, making it as much about Holmes as it is about the company.

Then there’s Alex Gibney’s documentary, 'The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley,' which takes a more journalistic approach. It’s packed with interviews from former employees and experts, giving you a clearer picture of how Theranos fooled so many people. The documentary is less about Holmes as a person and more about the systems that enabled her. Both adaptations complement each other—one’s a character study, the other’s a cautionary tale. If you’re into true crime or corporate scandals, these are essential viewing.

For those who prefer books, 'Bad Blood' is still the definitive account, but the visual adaptations bring the story to life in ways that feel fresh and urgent. It’s a rare case where the adaptations might even surpass the source material in terms of sheer entertainment value.

As someone who devours true crime and corporate scandals, the Theranos story is like catnip. The best adaptation so far is 'The Dropout,' a Hulu series that’s based on the book 'Bad Blood' by John Carreyrou. Amanda Seyfried nails Elizabeth Holmes’s weirdly deep voice and intense stare, making the series both eerie and addictive. It’s a slow burn, but the payoff is worth it, especially when you see how far Holmes was willing to go to keep the lie alive.

There’s also 'The Inventor,' a documentary by Alex Gibney that’s more about the mechanics of the fraud than the people behind it. It’s less dramatic but just as compelling, especially when it digs into how Theranos duped investors and patients alike. The documentary doesn’t shy away from the darker implications of the story, like the harm caused by faulty medical tests.

Both adaptations are great, but they serve different purposes. 'The Dropout' is for those who love character-driven drama, while 'The Inventor' is for fans of hard-hitting journalism. Either way, you’re in for a wild ride.

The Third Book
The Third Book
Following the success of her two novels, Cela receives an offer for the TV adaptation of her stories but a third story has to be written soon to complete a three-story special. She is not in to the project until she rediscovers the paper bearing the address of the meeting place of her supposed first date with Nate. Now that her mother is no longer around to interfere, she becomes inspired to reunite with him after many years and hopefully write the third novel based on their new story. Unfortunately, he is now about to get married in two months. Disappointed with the turn of events, she decides not to meet him again. She visits their old meeting place and finds it a good place to write but unexpectedly meets him there. They agree not to talk to each other if they meet there again but fate leads them to meet again under different circumstances leaving them no choice but to speak to each other. Suddenly, Nate’s fiancée starts acting weird and suggests that he spend the weekend with Cela while she is away. Although it confuses him, he figures that it is her way of helping him get closure. The two spend one Sunday reminiscing the past expecting a closure in the end but the wonderful moment they share this time only makes it harder to achieve that closure so Cela has to put a stop to it saying, “Please don't think even for a second that there is still something left or something new to explore after everything that happened or did not happen. This is not a novel. This is reality. We don't get sequels or spin-offs in real life. We just continue. We move forward and that's how we get to the ending."

What Are The Key Revelations In The Theranos Book?

I was completely engrossed in the Theranos scandal after reading 'Bad Blood' by John Carreyrou. The book reveals how Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, built a multi-billion dollar company based on lies and deception. The most shocking part was how she manipulated investors, employees, and even patients with false claims about revolutionary blood-testing technology. The book details how the technology never worked as promised, yet Holmes continued to deceive everyone, including high-profile figures like Henry Kissinger and Rupert Murdoch. The revelations about the toxic work culture, where employees were silenced or fired for raising concerns, were equally disturbing. It’s a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked ambition and the importance of ethical leadership in the tech industry.
