Who Is The New Female Lead In Top Gun: Maverick?

One of the shoujo classics that I look to for a defining example of the genre is Maid Sama!. The main character Misaki Ayuzawa is the strict and hardworking student council president of Seijo High School. She secretly works at a maid cafe to pay for her family’s rent. The fact that she works to support her family shows her fierce determination and protectiveness towards them. Her love interest is the laid-back Takumi Usui, who is very perceptive and always figures things out. What’s so amazing about this manga is that he loves her for her strength and always supports her while also teasing her a lot throughout the series. This is a very funny and heartwarming manga, and despite containing many typical shoujo tropes, Misaki never gets diminished in order to progress the plot for her love interest. In fact, she is the main driving force behind the story.

Honestly, no. I estimated her to be somewhere in her 80s to early 90s. The MCU has some really faulty timeline work (apparently as told to me by some REALLY smart people). We can work with 1921 as her birth year and 2014 as the movie release, that would make her 93. She looks great for her age though, all energetic and sharp as a tack. The scene in which an elderly lady Steve Rogers visits is so bittersweet because of this temporal gap between the two of them. The guy is a young 20-something in his body, and this woman has spent her entire life without him. That’s a big difference in years. A number really, but also so much more than that in terms of their actual relationship.

What is interesting to note is that this type of character is depicted differently in various sub-genres. In Mafia dark romance novels the strong heroine is either part of the mafia family or has been brought into the fold and becomes very powerful as she becomes entrenched in the business of the main character. Examples of this would be novels like ‘Bound by Honor’ by Cora Reilly in which our heroine is a very strong character from the start who is part of the infamous Chicago Outfit. In Bully novels the strength of the heroine is in her ability to withstand the torture of her boyfriend(s) and survive without losing her spirit. The strong heroine in these types of novels also may play out the role of revenge for her tormented past. Science Fiction or Alien dark romance novels are also filled with strong female protagonists. In these stories the strength of the heroine is in her ability to be clever, resourceful and to make ends meet in order to survive in a foreign, even hostile environment. What does not work for these types of novels is for the female lead to be a blank slate. She needs to be brought to life and be more than the object of the male protagonist’s affections in order to be deemed highly recommended by readers and authors alike. The setting and context of the novel may change, but the one non-negotiable element of these dark novels is the strong heroine who is more than just a one dimensional character.

Daniel LaRusso's love life in 'Cobra Kai' ties back to his high school sweetheart, Amanda. They got married years after the events of 'The Karate Kid,' and their relationship is one of the more stable elements in the chaotic world of karate dojos and rivalries. What I find interesting is how their dynamic contrasts with Johnny Lawrence's messier romantic history—Amanda brings this grounded, practical energy that balances Daniel's occasional impulsiveness. They even run the dealership together, which adds a fun layer to their partnership. Their marriage isn't just background noise, though. In later seasons, Amanda gets more involved in the dojo drama, especially when she starts questioning Daniel's obsession with Cobra Kai. It creates tension, but it also shows how well they communicate. They don't just fight and make up in one episode; their disagreements feel real, like when Amanda temporarily leaves in Season 5. It's refreshing to see a long-term TV marriage that isn't either perfect or constantly on the brink of collapse.

The actress who plays Marlene, Merle Dandridge, is kinda a rockstar in the world of video games. She has appeared in many titles including Fire Emblem, StarCraft, Destiny and The Last of Us series for both video games and the new HBO show adaptation. Her portrayal of Marlene in the show is incredibly rich and in one scene in particular where she turns over control of Ellie to Joel, she almost seems unsure if she believes in what the Fireflies are trying to do or if she is so deeply invested that she can’t bring herself to abandon the cause. Incidentally, Merle Dandridge also sings for a living (have you checked out the soundtrack for ‘Destiny 2’?). Her Marlene is a fully rounded character – great, flawed, powerful and heartbreakingly human.

Yes, strong female characters do exist in erotic fiction, though they are more likely to appear in self-published e-books or online-serial fiction than in printed books. Many strong female characters in erotic fiction are poorly written, and thus come across as harsh or even disagreeable. I much prefer a strong heroine whose strength is slowly revealed through the plot of a folklore-inspired story, re-told in a modern, erotic fashion. The core of the original heroine’s determination to achieve her goals is preserved, and her romantic and/or erotic encounters areauthentically rendered as a natural extension of her character.

The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray is another amazing YA novel that is good for adults too. It’s a historical fantasy mystery that takes place in 1895 and Gemma Doyle is a rebellious young girl fighting her visions, a mysterious magical order, and the strict rules of her boarding school. There’s a mystery surrounding Gemma’s mother’s death, a mysterious diary, and a hidden magical realm that Gemma must find. Gemma is an intuitive and powerful young girl who must fight against the repressive Victorian society around her, including the mundane and magical restrictions placed upon her. Bray looks at the topic of female desire and the bonds of friendship and the struggle to find power in these novels. I thoroughly enjoyed The Gemma Doyle Trilogy and found the setting of Spence Academy in the late 1800s to be claustrophobic and perfect for a Gothic style of mystery. As a main character, Gemma isn’t always likable, but you can’t help but root for her because she is so passionate and determined. I think what makes Gemma the strongest character in the trilogy is her friendships with her girls and how together they are able to push up against the boundaries set upon them in order to discover themselves and their place in the world.

This single question really encapsulates how far the MCU has come as a cinematic universe. Five years ago you could answer this question with a title of a film, but now you have to be even more specific. Is the question asking for the next film to be released, the next story to be told in chronological order, or is there something specific that you want to follow with a certain character? The answer to this question for new fans can be very intimidating because the MCU is so rich and so complex. When in doubt I always tell people to follow the release order of the films, that’s always going to be the safest bet.

‘Doctor Strange 2’ and the rejoining of the cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch as the wonderfully eccentric Doctor and Elizabeth Olsen as a battered and still being bruised Wanda following her recent interactions. I really do hope they give her character some more direction within the upcoming film. Benedict Wong is set to reprise his role as the lovable and humor-laden Wong, who I really hope gets some more character development in the upcoming film. Additionally, there are reportedly a few more actors joining the cast of ‘Doctor Strange 2’, who will apparently add to the film. The inclusion of new actors can really add to the storytelling possibilities and I am excited to see how they are incorporated into the film, apparently adding to the already epic story in new and interesting ways in each new chapter of the film. I hope there are some great and memorable scenes between characters.
